Position Summary
The Deputy Director is responsible for the oversight of JROTC training, logistics, and administration while upholding the mission, vision and values of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. Collaborates with 7th Brigade US Army Cadet Command to ensure proper funding, supplies and equipment are received by the Department of Military Science DPSCD.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently serving Commissioned Officers in the Army National Guard/Army Reserve with 8 years of honorable service in the grades of 0-3 through O-6; and Commissioned Officers separated/retired within the past 5 years with a minimum of 8 years cumulative honorable service in the grades of 0-3 through O-6 are eligible to apply. If separation from service exceeds 5 years, exception to policy is required.
- Must possess at a minimum a bachelor's degree
- Must meet the minimum qualifications required by the Department of Defense
Essential Functions
- Serves as the principal assistant to the Director of Army Instruction.
- Coordinates and supervises the activities of headquarters for Army Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (AJROTC) departments and is the action officer in the implementation of new or revised program changes and policy.
- Represents the Director of Army Instruction at conferences involving the training/operations of the AJROTC program.
- Keeps abreast of current Department of the Army literature and policies affecting the AJROTC and effectively communicates this information to all instructors.
- Monitors the conduct and performance of all AJROTC instructors assigned to schools and advises the DAI.
- Oversees a comprehensive inspection of each school once every three years, covering all items enumerated in the JROTC Program of Accreditation (JPA) CCR145-8-3.
- Conducts promotion boards for cadet-corps leadership.
- Plans and coordinates professional development for cadet leadership to include but not limited to: JROTC Curriculum Advanced Studies Staff School (JCAS³), the Dining In, Cadet Battalion Continuous Process Improvement Plan and the Cadet Service-Learning Project.
- Drafts Plans, Policies and Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs) for DPSCD High School JROTC.
- Assist JROTC instructors in preparation for a formal observation by the DAI using the JROTC Classroom Observation and Feedback Instrument (COFI).
- Prepares District budget to ensure JROTC is supported sufficiently and in the same manner as other school programs.
- Conducts instruction on college and career opportunities for all DPSCD JROTC cadets.
- Maintain certification as an Army Instructor IAW CCR 145-2 and US Army Cadet Command Directives.
- Acts on behalf of the DAI in the event of an extended absence by the DAI.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the DAI to include but not limited to JROTC classroom instruction; planning and executing JROTC instructor professional development; and assisting the Military Property Specialist with logistical requirements.
Security Clearance
The Department of Defense requires an extensive Child Care National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (CNACI). The DPSCD Hiring Authority will assist the applicant through the CNACI process.
