Starting Date: Immediately Position Title Head Coach Reports to Athletic Director Qualifications Three to five years of experience as an athletic coach (preferred) Knowledge of the sport and its rules and regulations Applicable certifications and/or licensure required Employment with District and valid teacher’s certification preferred Other qualifications may be approved by the Superintendent or Athletic Director Position Summary The Head Coach directs and oversees a specific athletic program within the school, helping each student‑athlete achieve higher skill levels, discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and self‑esteem while aligning with the Department and School District’s Mission, Vision, Philosophy, and Core Values. Duties / Responsibilities Analyze strengths and weaknesses of the team and develop strategies accordingly Evaluate team members to determine fitness levels and potential, assigning positions based on strengths and weaknesses Set team and individual goals, directing and motivating staff and players toward their achievement Prepare game plans in collaboration with other coaches for each competition Gather competitor performance data, analyze and develop game strategies to meet challenges Provide instruction to team members before, during, and after events to win competitions Schedule and coordinate practices, and organize and lead practice sessions Develop physical conditioning programs to maximize athlete potential Ensure proper and safe use of equipment by student‑athletes Attend all team events, ensuring proper behavior by the team and coaches Actively participate in faculty and coaching meetings Maintain files documenting individual player performance, academic status, and eligibility requirements Ensure completion and filing of physical exams, parental consent forms, waivers, and insurance forms in compliance with local, district, and governing body rules Stay current on rule changes, coaching philosophies, techniques, technology, and maintain up-to-date certifications Assist in assigning and promoting assistant coaches based on experience and performance Coordinate the work of assistant coaches and oversee schedules and performance of support staff such as trainers and therapists Assist in performance evaluations for athletic staff Perform additional reasonable duties as directed by the Athletic Director Required Skills / Abilities Thorough understanding of the fundamentals of the applicable team sport Understanding of rules and regulations related to student-athletes and coaches Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and managerial skills Effective communication with athletes and coaches Strong verbal and written communication skills Leadership and motivational skills Extensive knowledge of the assigned sport Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Basic computer skills (email, Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Suite) Physical Requirements Traverse various athletic grounds and facilities Prolonged periods of standing or walking Watch and analyze video of opposing teams Lifting up to 25 pounds at a time Terms of Employment Salary and work will be determined in accordance with the current agreement between the Maynard School Committee and the Maynard Education Association. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory criminal record and fingerprint checks, and completion of all required training and certification programs mandated by the School District or MIAA. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated by the Athletic Director in accordance with the provisions of the current agreement between the Maynard School Committee and the Maynard Education Association.
