Job Description

Title: PARA-EDUCATOR - JOB COACH

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Assist the special education and/or classroom teacher by performing assigned duties related to the learning process as outlined in students' educational plans such as assembling and preparing employment related or instructional materials and reinforcing instruction under the direction/supervision of the teacher or building administrator

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associates Degree or higher; or High school diploma or equivalent with additional 48 semester credit hours from accredited institutions; or High School Diploma or equivalent with addition of passing a rigorous test as approved by VDOE or YCSD for purposes of determining highly qualified status for teacher assistants under the No Child Left Behind legislation. Bachelor's Degree or higher qualifies for Tier Two pay grade.
• Skill in handling varied, multiple duties
• Ability to work with students, teachers, administrators, parents and job site supervisors
• Basic knowledge and/or experience related to area of assignment
• Willingness to serve all students
• Demonstration of initiative and self-direction
• Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity and oral and written communication skills required to perform all performance responsibilities
• Ability to move about at job site to monitor students and check work in job site with varied seating and desk organization patterns
• Ability to assist in the implementation of an instructional and work related program and to participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior, including outdoor activity areas, gymnasiums, etc.
• Ability to assist student with physical limitations that may require physical manipulation or assistance

Performance Responsibilities:

• Perform assigned duties related to the learning of workplace readiness skills
• Plan for and prepare the students for work at their individual job sites by implementing appropriate accommodations; differentiate assigned tasks according to student level of independence and fade supports as appropriate
• Monitor and assist students under the direction/supervision of the special education teacher, classroom teacher, building administrator or site based job supervisors
• Provide students with feedback and corrective instruction as they perform jobs, including daily performance sheets
• Take ongoing performance data on individual students
• Assist in organizing and maintaining student records
• Communicate with the YCSD staff, site supervisors and co-workers to coordinate student duties, materials and obtain performance feedback
• Provide professional communication with staff and parents under the direction of and in collaboration with the special education teacher
• Assist the teacher in assembling and preparing instructional materials and related forms
• Ensure student safety at all times
• Be familiar with safety and performance expectations of the work site
• Be thoroughly aware of and able to perform all duties that are required of the student
• Make appropriate adjustments to work experiences as weather, business or equipment situations dictate; communicate deviations from planned jobs to teacher and supervisor
• Assist with implementation of behavior management and/or medical management plans
• Directly implement or assist in fulfilling students daily personal health maintenance tasks
• Transport students to and from job sites; adhere to all YCSD transportation policies and procedures
• Participate in staff development activities related to area of assignment
• Maintain confidentiality with regard to student records and information
• Perform other duties as assigned by teacher and principal

Reports to:

Coordinator of Student Services

Terms of Employment:

Ten months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.

Evaluation:

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
