Summary:

 

The front end clerk's duties will include checking out and bagging items, carrying purchased goods to customers' cars while providing outstanding customer service daily. Welcoming customers with a smile and positive demeanor, and ensuring a clean and secure work environment.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Customer Service:

• Greet and welcome the customer in a polite and friendly manner.
• Approach customers respectfully and provide assistance
• Maintain positive and clear communication
• Be ready ensuring not to keep customers waiting at any time
• Attend to customer complaints, needs and questions throughout the day

 

Inventory and Stocking:

• Clerks will be responsible for assisting with stocking within the checkout out isles
• Knowing when to face front and clean areas near you
• Be familiar with where products are located within the store
• Document and address any needs and request regarding any products
• Gather returned items from customer service or check-out counters and return to their appropriate places

 

Equipment Operation and Maintenance:

• Knowledge of maintenance and cleaning of registers (scales, belt etc.)
• Retrieve shopping carts from parking areas

 

Developmental Growth:

• Enhancing customer service skill
• Expanding knowledge within your specific department
• Potential for higher position when available
• Improve communication skills

 

Other Duties:

- Cross-train in different departments

- Know when to avoid conflict at anytime and request for managers assistance to avoid further disagreements

 

Working Conditions:

The work enviroment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee typically experiences while performing the essential functions of this job. Work will primarily be preformed in a grocery store setting.

• Work will be performed inside a temperature-controlled environment and occasionally in storage areas.
• Noise levels in the work environment are moderate
• Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts are required as a normal part of this position.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle products for extended periods.

• Clerks are required to stand and /or move around as needed
• Must be able to lift and use hands as necessary to load items
• Assist customers on a daily basis.

 

Required Qualifications:

• Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly
• Customer service or cashier experience
• Basic math and computer skills
• Ability to work under pressure during busy periods
• Ability to handle customer queries and complaints with grace
• Acknowledge and agree to maintain a drug-free workplace
• A satisfactory result obtained through a test for illegal drugs

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience in a grocery store or related environment
• Experience handling money
• Experience processing EBT and WIC transactions
• Knowledge of cigarette brands
