Your Impact

As a Barista, you will:

• Prepare and serve coffee, espresso beverages, teas, and other caf beverages according to Populus and Little Owl standards.
• Prepare and present food and beverage items accurately, efficiently, and with attention to detail.
• Provide warm, genuine, and knowledgeable service to hotel guests and local customers.
• Welcome guests, take orders, process payments, and ensure orders are completed accurately.
• Engage with guests and make thoughtful recommendations based on their preferences.
• Maintain knowledge of coffee, beverage offerings, food items, ingredients, and menu changes.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting caf and service area throughout the shift.
• Properly operate and care for espresso machines, grinders, brewers, and other caf equipment.
• Follow established recipes, portion standards, preparation procedures, and presentation guidelines.
• Restock coffee, beverages, food items, paper goods, and other supplies as needed.
• Monitor product levels and communicate replenishment needs to leadership.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, cash-handling, and health and safety procedures.
• Work collaboratively with the caf, culinary, stewarding, and hotel teams to support smooth daily operations.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cleaning, stocking, cash handling, and equipment shutdown.
• Support special events, hotel programming, and other service needs as assigned.
• Help create a positive and welcoming environment for both guests and fellow associates.
• Pitch in wherever needed to support the success of the team and the overall guest experience.

Sustainability & Stewardship

At Populus, thoughtful hospitality includes being thoughtful about the resources we use. In this role, you will help support our sustainability practices through responsible product usage, proper waste sorting, thoughtful preparation, and careful care of equipment and supplies.

You will help create a caf experience that reflects Populus' commitment to quality, community, and a more sustainable approach to hospitality.

What Will Make You Successful

You are warm, curious, and genuinely enjoy connecting with people. You take pride in the details, enjoy learning, and understand that great hospitality is about more than simply preparing a beverage.

You will bring:

• Previous barista, caf, restaurant, or hospitality experience preferred.
• Experience preparing espresso and specialty coffee beverages preferred.
• A genuine interest in coffee, food, and hospitality.
• Strong guest service and communication skills.
• The ability to work efficiently and calmly in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and consistency.
• The ability to learn and follow recipes, procedures, and service standards.
• Basic cash-handling and point-of-sale experience preferred.
• The ability to maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment.
• A positive, team-oriented attitude and willingness to pitch in wherever needed.
• The ability to stand and move for extended periods and perform the physical requirements of the position.
• A professional, welcoming, and approachable presence.
• The ability to communicate effectively in English.
