Team Lead Resident Maintenance Technician

What You Get To Do As a Resident Maintenance Technician Team Lead, you will provide industrial electrical/mechanical expertise and work with a team to maximize equipment utilization and efficiency. You will assist in developing and implementing processes to maintain proper utilization and functionality. This role requires knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automated equipment, including the utilization of 480VAC, 240VAC, 120VAC, 48VDC, 24VDC, VFDs, and PLCs (Siemens preferred). The successful candidate will work with the Maintenance Shift Supervisor, Resident Site Supervisor and/or Site Maintenance Manager within a team of experienced engineers. Be a team member providing first‑class maintenance support to our customers on operation and maintenance of automated storage and retrieval systems and storage and picking systems installed at customer locations. Eager and determined to succeed, yet safety conscious in all activities, owning problems and seeing them through to successful completion. May be required to respond to emergency calls. Weekend work may be required and will be structured to provide forward planning. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Rectify electro‑mechanical faults, resolve PLC‑related issues, and provide expert knowledge on this subject matter to assist the customer site. Respond to emergency calls at customer sites. Maintain safety consciousness in all activities. Track and record problems, ensuring successful completion. Provide a first‑class response to customers in conjunction with on‑site maintenance departments, following a first‑time right policy. Provide emergency breakdown and specialized maintenance support. Set up and calibrate precision automation equipment. Create strong, effective working relationships with customers and their operational agents. Achieve performance targets in output speed, quality of repair and workmanship standards. Train the customer’s maintenance team as required. Expertise in installation of conveyor and precision automation equipment. Maintain quality of service through clear communications with customers. Ensure well‑written and legible reports. Execute site quality procedures, safety procedures and statutory procedures. Participate in regular meetings with the Maintenance Shift Supervisor, Resident Site Manager or Site Maintenance Manager to discuss activities and progress, and provide information to the Resident Business Manager. Provide specialized maintenance service support for the customer’s installed system. Ensure spare‑parts usage issues are logged promptly with the customer and Knapp spare‑parts team or CMMS, if available. Ensure proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment supplied. Provide flexibility and maximize skill use and capabilities. Ensure all time sheets and documents are correct, legible and submitted to Knapp biweekly for approval. Perform mechanical strip‑down/ re‑assembly, basic field wiring, machine calibration and system testing as needed. Complete reactive repairs within specified timeframes. Inform on‑site management of repair and maintenance progress, addressing their concerns professionally. Show hands‑on ownership of issues for timely resolution. Interpret and work with electrical circuit diagrams. Apply appropriate health & safety considerations and perform risk assessments. Demonstrate mechanical aptitude, including reading assembly drawings. Operate hand tools and disassemble/assemble parts onto equipment. Follow setup instructions, assembly drawings and checklists. Maintain attention to detail and excellent follow‑up skills. Provide excellent communication and customer service skills for both internal and external customers. Be computer literate with basic Microsoft Office skills. Be willing to learn and adapt to changing role requirements. Appreciate cultural diversity. Perform other duties as required. What You Have Degree in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience. 3–8 years of verifiable progressive experience as Maintenance Repairman, Maintenance Electrician, Machine Repairman or Industrial Maintenance Engineer. Verifiable experience providing repairs on various types of machinery systems, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Bilingual (English/German) preferred but not required. Extensive experience in equipment maintenance, modifications and design preferred. Strong problem‑solving capabilities. Ability to provide unique interpretations or analyses of our systems to customers. Process‑oriented mentality. Theoretical and operational experience in repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of PLC‑based machinery, highly automated and robotic equipment and control systems. Network equipment interfaces experience, a plus. Hands‑on, team‑oriented and committed to improvement processes. Experience in reducing costs through processes and efficiencies.
