Social Worker III

Position Overview Position located in the Children Services section. The primary purpose is to provide Social Work Services in the areas of Children’s Services, custody, adoption, and foster care. Responsibilities include assessing individual and family dynamics and needs, serving as expert witness at court hearings, providing crisis intervention and counseling, and consulting with other staff and community professionals for joint case planning. The role utilizes a family‑centered practice approach while meeting state standards and keeping the child’s need for connections and permanency in mind. Salary & Work‑Against Work‑Against Salary: $61,616.28 after one (1) year of experience – fully qualified as a Social Worker III Salary: $67,931.95. Qualifications Master’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work. Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school plus completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (for Child Welfare positions). Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school plus one year of directly related experience. Master’s degree in counseling in a human services field plus one year of social work or counseling experience. Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university plus two years of directly related experience. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus three years of directly related experience. Equivalent combination of training and experience. Directly Related Experience is defined as Human Services experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho‑social therapy, and treatment planning. Responsibilities Conduct in‑depth assessments of family dynamics. Determine the extent of neglect or abuse. Serve as expert witness at court hearings. Provide crisis intervention and counseling services. Consult with other staff and community professionals for information exchange and joint case planning. Apply a family‑centered practice approach in all client interactions. Conditions of Employment Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License and be able to operate motor vehicles for Cumberland County. Must provide a personal vehicle for duties that require it. Must participate in drug testing as specified by County policy. Refusal or a positive result may lead to withdrawal of the offer. Must undergo a law‑enforcement background check.
