Respiratory Therapist - Full Time

Respiratory Therapist Our hospital provides high‑quality care that transforms the lives of those living with disabling injuries and illnesses. The Respiratory Therapist evaluates and treats patients with breathing disorders in accordance with hospital, state, professional and federal regulations and guidelines. Key Responsibilities Perform medically prescribed respiratory care procedures in accordance with physician’s orders, medical staff approved protocols, and clinical practice guidelines. Assess the patient’s condition using professional judgment and in conference with the patient’s physician. Evaluate the appropriateness of therapy for patients. Request re‑order when necessary and communicate with nurses and physicians about discrepancies and concerns. Actively participate in patient rounds and team conferences as indicated. Participate in shift report, continuing educational programs offered, and mandatory in‑services. Document all procedures and patient education performed on all patients, including patients’ response to therapy, and communicate patient tolerance or adverse response to therapy to nursing, physicians, and other applicable staff. Receive pertinent information concerning assigned patients and effectively communicate all relevant information to the on‑coming shift. Maintain and clean/sterilize equipment and work area as required. Report all malfunctions or breakage appropriately. Perform setup, maintenance and removal of equipment from patient care areas. Communicate appropriate information to patient and family concerning respiratory care procedures and equipment maintenance as needed. Stand by and assist during special procedures and respond to critical situations. Work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies as required. Provide an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff, assessing risks and implementing appropriate precautions. Comply with safety and infection‑prevention standards. Maintain regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule. Complete required training as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization. Minimum Job Requirements One year of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner; Acute Care setting preferred. Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist. Current BLS certification. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrate competency in the provision of care according to established standards. Apply age‑specific standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Demonstrate critical‑thinking skills. Understand treatment costs and financial support as they relate to quality and efficiency. Possess general computer skills, including data entry, word processing, email, and records management. Effective organizational and time‑management skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks. Maintain quality, safety, and infection‑prevention standards. Work independently. Maintain confidentiality. Work closely and professionally with others at all levels of the organization. Physical Requirements Significant amount of standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling for prolonged periods. Lifting up to 50 lbs. Possible exposure to bodily fluids. Visual acuity and acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment and documentation. Manual dexterity needed to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
