Every system we build helps connect people to education, healthcare, opportunity, and each other.As a Satellite Communication (SATCOM) System Engineer, you will be responsible for Customer Terminal (CT) architecture, integration and validation with hardware, software, and firmware. You will work in a collaborative environment with a multi-disciplinary team including electrical hardware, antenna, simulation, silicon, algorithm, firmware, and software engineers. Key job responsibilitiesIn this role, your responsibilities include:• Develop the CT architecture by working closely with sub-system engineers in electrical, RF, antenna, thermal, modem, DSP, ASIC, algorithm, firmware, modeling, and software• Develop the validation plans, build the validation infrastructure, execute testing, analyze data, and report the results to the stakeholders• Investigate and resolve validation failures by leading cross-functional teams• Ensure the delivered work meets technical, functional, performance, regulatory, and business requirements• Perform in-field and on-orbit validation with satellites• Travel up to 10% of the time, depending on project phasesExport Control Requirement:Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.A day in the lifeAs a SATCOM System Engineer on the Amazon Leo Customer Terminal Team, you will work daily with electrical hardware, RF, antenna, silicon, and product design engineers, as well as software and operations teams in a collaborative environment. Your focus will be on architecting, integrating, and verifying customer terminal functional performance to ensure it delights our customers.About the teamThe Leo Customer Terminal team is responsible for developing both outdoor & indoor devices, enabling customers internet service via the Leo satellite network. We own the entire process from early prototypes through mass production including requirements documents, architecture definition, hardware development, and all integration/verification testing.Basic qualifications- Experience leading the design, automation, deployment, and support of large-scale infrastructure- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics, or other relevant engineering discipline- 5+ years of satellite terminal development, integration, and validation experience- 3+ years of hardware design and validation of components and subsystems experience- Strong understanding of communication systems, RF, and phased array antenna- Experience in MATLAB, Python or C++- Familiarity with test instruments such as oscilloscope, spectrum analyzers, vector signal analyzers, vector signal generators, channel emulators, network emulators, and GNSS emulators- Experience in developing complex telecommunication, antenna, and/or satellite communication systems- Experience in developing mobility terminalsPreferred qualification - Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline- Knowledge of digital communication systems, error correction, synchronization, spread spectrum, single and multi-carrier techniques, and modulation types such as QPSK, APSK, and QAM- Experience working with mobility satellite terminals such as maritime, aeronautical, and automotive- Understanding of free space communication and satellite link budget principles in Ka-band- Experience in developing simulation and modeling tools- Familiarity with active and passive RF components, EE hardware, beamforming circuits, and electromagnetic propagation- Satellite over-the-air communication field trial experience- Debugging skills for systems integration from RF front end to baseband- Design experience with high-speed digital and/or RF circuitry in collaboration with various teamsAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
