A Brief Overview
Under the direction of the Radiology Manager and IR Lead Technologist, operates radiographic equipment to obtain optimum imaging of designated portions of the body to aid in diagnosis of disease, measure progress of disease, and treat disease when applicable.

What you will do

• 1. Performs various special procedures that produce radiographic imaging of optimum diagnostic quality according to department policy and procedure daily.
• Follows all current protocols for routine IR, and Fluoroscopic exams and positioning prescribed in the procedure manual set forth by the imaging department.
• Provide optimal diagnostic imaging and radiation safety for the purpose of diagnostic interpretation
• Selects correct technical factors on an individual patient basis (proper techniques) to ensure an image of diagnostic quality.
• Administers intravenous and gastro-intestinal injections of contrast media according to policy and procedures of the imaging department.
• 2. Operates Routine, IR, and fluoroscopic equipment according to department policy and procedure.
• Adheres to federal and state radiation safety guidelines and regulations regarding patient and operator protection, collimation, and shielding.
• Ensures dosimetry badge is worn 100% of the time outside his/her thyroid shield while he/she is working in the imaging department.
• Ensures radiation protection on all patients by using lead shields, lead aprons, and gonadal shields.
• 3. Provides and supports interdepartmental teamwork set forth by the radiology administrator.
• Coordinates and help support the needs of the other modalities, and CHOP Healthcare Network to provide effective patient care and service.
• Ensure open communication with nursing staff, etc. regarding examination time, required lab tests, premedication, and IV start.
• Document and communicate patient information to staff members, physicians, referring services and nursing care units
• Provide Call coverage for off- hours emergency cases and holidays.
• Assist in the orientation of newly hired technologists in IR and uses appropriate documentation for this training 100% of the time.
• 4. Maintains workstation area and equipment.
• Ensures that all emergency equipment and specialized equipment is checked daily and record books maintained as necessary.
• Ensures that the room is checked on initial use for safety.
• Ensures the equipment is functioning before start of procedure.
• Ensures that supplies are available and ready for use before shift begins
• In conjunction with SPD, will take inventory weekly and make appropriate arrangements to replenish supplies 100% of the time.
• Ensures that after the end of shift, work area will be returned to readiness and an acceptable level of cleanliness.
• Ensures all radiographic equipment is turned off at end of shift and plugged in if applicable.
• 5. Responsible for maintaining the continuing education required for this position
• Complete mandatory education and on-line tutorials 100% of the time.
• Obtains at least 12 CE credits/year.
• Participates and contributes to team projects.
• Attend IR case conference and educational M&M sessions when applicable.
• All other duties as assigned.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED - Required
• Technical Diploma Radiology Program - Required

Experience Qualifications

• At least one (1) year experience in the field of diagnostic radiology - Required or
• At least one (1) year experience in Interventional Radiology - Required
• Pediatric experience - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - upon hire - Required and
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor to lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 12 months - Required
• Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - - Preferred
• Computed Tomography (CT) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - - Preferred

Skills and Abilities

• Responsible for maintaining the continuing education required for this position (Required proficiency)
• Complete mandatory education on-line tutorials 100% of the time. (Required proficiency)
• Obtains 12 CE credits/year. (Required proficiency)
• Participates and contributes to team projects. (Required proficiency)
• Attend IR case conference and educational M&M sessions when applicable. (Required proficiency)

SALARY RANGE:

$36.60 - $46.65 Hourly
