Sr Java DeveloperPay: $66 - 70 C2CLocation: OCTO - 200 I Street, SE Washington DC 20003 LOCALSProjected Start Date: August 11, 2026Interview Type: In Person OnlyThis opening is a fully On Site position.The Senior Java Developer position requires in-depth knowledge of Java and J2EE background using Spring Technologies framework, design, and architectural styles/API’s (REST/RPC) and Agile methodologies for the development of application programs.Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) will be modernizing the District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles Enterprise Application Destiny project to leverage new digital technologies such as cloud computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence and mobile that are required to create modern experience for customers and partners of DC DMV. Modernizing the DMV Enterprise Application Destiny helps DCDMV improve their services to citizens, enhance government operations while strengthening the overall data security. To address these challenges, the OCTO-DMV team is looking to hire highly skilled individuals to rapidly connect DMV Enterprise Destiny Application with modern technology while minimizing disruption to the existing systems.Role Description:The role will require you to design, develop and test using Java technologies which will facilitate application development and implementation from development to QA to production. You will work to gain an understanding of the current system infrastructure, security needs, network considerations, and methodologies.In this role, you will primarily focus on Java programming and supporting the ecosystem for the organization.Responsibilities:The Senior Java Developer position requires in-depth knowledge of Java and J2EE background using Spring Technologies framework, design, and architectural styles/API’s (REST/RPC) and Agile methodologies for the development of application programs. The Senior Developer will be writing clean, scalable code using Java programming languages, refactor and debug code, improve existing software, test, and deploy applications and systems. The resource will be required to develop documentation throughout the lifecycle of the development process and provide technical support to the team.Ensure that the technologies are updated with current, stable, and compliant architecture and applications that meet enterprise standards.Collaborate with internal teams to produce software design and architectureDevelop, Test and Deploy applications and systemsRevise, update, refactor and debug codeImprove existing Java applications and systemsProactively monitors and reports performance utilization of assigned technologies.Troubleshoot software and/or hardware issues/failures.Manage problems or escalated tickets and tasks and out-of-cycle requests from systems/software owners.Determine the best course of action for meeting business needs and provide consultative expertise to customers on how to best use systems.Proactively monitors and identifies broader, more complex issues across multiple, integrated, connecting technologies and communicate as appropriate.Provides technical knowledge and support to District agencies, personnel, and additional stakeholdersPerforms other related duties as assignedMay coordinate activities of application developers.Able to identify best practices and standards for the use of the product.Delivers support and design for industry specific applications that require integration with statewide systems or applicationsInteracts with executive level business users or technical expertsMay function as a niche technical SME (Subject Matter Expert)Minimum Education/Certification Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent experience
