Position Public Works Inspector – City of Monterey, 735 Pacific St., CA, United States. Overview The City of Monterey is recruiting for one full‑time Public Works Inspector in its Engineering Division. Responsibilities Perform construction inspection for a variety of public works engineering projects. Understand and interpret engineering and architectural drawings. Ensure projects are constructed in accordance with plans and specifications. Understand and enforce local, state, and federal codes applicable to projects. Work closely with contractors, utility companies, other City departments, businesses, and residents. Respond to public inquiries and return phone calls and electronic correspondence. Perform and document extensive field inspection work. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Four (4) years of experience in sub‑professional engineering work or supervision of public works construction and maintenance work, including one (1) year as a public works or construction inspector. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. License and Certification Must possess a valid California Driver’s License at the time of appointment and be insurable with the City’s standard insurance rate, unless otherwise approved by appointing authority.
