Senior Tax Manager

A local accounting firm is hiring a Tax Manager who will also serve as the client-facing lead on audit engagements while a staff team performs most of the testing.

Responsibilities

Audit leadership

• Serve as the primary client contact on audit engagements: kickoff, status updates, findings, and delivery
• Direct and review the work of audit staff who perform the bulk of the testing
• Review workpapers for completeness and quality, and manage engagement timelines and budgets
• Communicate audit findings and issues to client management
• Coach and develop staff on audit procedures

Tax leadership

• Manage a portfolio of tax clients, including small businesses, nonprofits, and foreign-owned entities
• Review business, nonprofit, and individual returns prepared by staff
• Advise clients on tax planning and respond to notices
• Supervise and train tax staff

Firm

• Work directly with the firm owner on staffing, workflow, and client relationships
• Help balance workload between tax and audit across busy seasons

Qualifications

Required

• Active CPA license
• Experience as a tax manager or senior tax professional, with a record of managing client relationships
• Exposure to audit engagements, including planning, testing, and workpaper review
• Experience supervising, training, and reviewing the work of staff
• Strong client communication xhyhwjd skills, in writing and in person
• Comfortable leading engagements without doing all of the fieldwork personally

Preferred

• Prior experience leading or managing audits, especially for small businesses or nonprofits
• Familiarity with nonprofit tax and reporting requirements
• Experience with foreign-owned entities and related filings
• Public accounting experience at a small or mid-sized firm
• Based in the New Orleans area
