Gastroenterologist The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a full-time Gastroenterologist to join the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. This position provides comprehensive gastrointestinal care to Veterans, including outpatient, inpatient, and nursing home patients. The role includes diagnosis, treatment, endoscopic procedures, consultative services, collaboration with clinical teams, and care delivery within the VA Patient Aligned Care Team model. Diagnose, treat, and manage gastrointestinal diseases, including Hepatitis C. Perform endoscopic procedures, including EGD, PEG, colonoscopies, and paracentesis. Administer conscious sedation as part of appropriate GI procedures. Provide consultative services to the VA Medical Center and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff under the Patient Aligned Care Team model. Support coordinated, patient-centered care across specialty care and primary care teams. Report to the Associate Chief of Staff for Specialty Care. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must have a Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from an approved school. Must have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Must have completed approved residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification, or otherwise meet VA physician residency requirements. Must pass a background/security investigation. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination. Drug testing is required for this position. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements. Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as required for VA health care personnel. May be required to serve a probationary period. Preferred Experience: More than five years of experience as a Gastroenterologist is preferred. Strong proficiency performing upper GI endoscopies and colonoscopies is preferred. Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical examination. Requires lifting 15 to 44 pounds. Requires pushing for approximately two hours. Requires reaching above the shoulder, use of fingers and both hands, walking and standing for three to five hours, and kneeling. Requires rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Requires near vision correctable at 13 to 16 inches and far vision correctable to required standards. Must have depth perception and the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid use is permitted.
