About the Position

Job Title: Med/Tele/PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: PCU experience and ability to read cardiac strips Description: Department consists of 32 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5, with occasional 5-6 on nights. PCU level care overflow on the unit has a ratio of 1:3. Common diagnoses include adults and geriatrics, cardiac catheterizations, EP studies, pacemakers, and ETOH. Other types of patients include those on Bipap for COVID, occasional general surgical with heart history, and medical patients with cardiac history including pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis. Tele/cardiac RN with PCU experience is preferred. Experience with Epic is preferred but first-time travelers are welcome. RNs are required to titrate drips which may include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine. No Levophed is used. A charge nurse is present on each shift and may take a light patient load of 2-3 patients. The unit has patient care techs with a ratio goal of 1:10. RNs will troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow oxygen equipment. Telemetry and monitor techs are present on the unit. RNs must read and interpret their own cardiac strips. Shifts are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Rotating shifts will not occur more than weekly. Weekend and holiday requirements are every other. Floating may occur to support other areas. Any color scrubs are acceptable. There are 2 shifts of department-specific orientation. This position is more tele/cardiac focused. Candidates should not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities. Requests for time off must be submitted upfront, and additional requests will not be approved. A cancellation policy allows for 4 shifts per contract; 3 shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks. Charting system used is Epic. BSN is not required. Trauma level is 2. Care setting is acute. Division is nursing. Additional notes highlight the importance of RN skills for handling tele/cardiac responsibilities.
