Position Overview

Our client, a quality consulting and engineering services firm, is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Auditor to conduct compliance audits for structural steel fabricators in accordance with AISC standards and requirements .

This role is ideal for someone with a background in structural steel fabrication, welding, inspection, quality assurance, or construction who understands fabrication processes and enjoys evaluating quality systems, reviewing technical documentation, and working directly with fabrication teams.

This is a travel-intensive position , with regular visits to fabrication shops, manufacturing facilities, construction sites, and other client locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct structural steel compliance audits in accordance with AISC standards and client requirements.
• Plan, execute, document, and report on assigned audits.
• Evaluate structural steel fabrication processes, procedures, and quality management systems.
• Interview personnel at multiple levels within fabrication organizations.
• Review technical specifications, drawings, procedures, quality records, and project documentation.
• Gather and evaluate audit evidence to identify compliance issues and support findings.
• Prepare clear, detailed audit reports and communicate results professionally to clients.
• Assess quality programs, fabrication practices, and compliance with applicable industry standards.
• Manage multiple audit assignments, schedules, documentation requirements, and travel logistics.
• Maintain professional auditing practices, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
• Complete a 90-day training program consisting of field shadowing, supervised audits, and hands-on project experience.
• Travel extensively throughout the assigned territory and to client locations as required.

Qualifications

• Experience in structural steel fabrication, inspection, quality assurance, or a related industry required.
• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and quality requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, procedures, and quality documentation .
• Strong critical thinking, evaluation, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interviewing, communication, and technical writing abilities.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
• Professional, client-focused approach with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat .
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively .

Preferred Experience & Certifications

• Welding or welding inspection.
• Construction management.
• Supplier quality or supplier auditing.
• Quality management systems and compliance assessments.
• Structural steel fabrication environments.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
• ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) certification.
