Reliability Engineer

Job TitleThe Reliability Engineer performs specialized professional reliability engineering, asset reliability, asset lifecycle management, maintenance strategy development, and performance analysis work for Environmental Services wastewater facilities.Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates reliability-centered maintenance strategies that improve asset reliability, availability, risk management, and long-term lifecycle performance. Partners with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Process Engineering, Asset Condition Monitoring, planning and scheduling teams, vendors, contractors, and other internal and external stakeholders. Work includes analyzing failure trends and asset condition data, supporting Asset Management Plans, optimizing preventive and predictive maintenance programs, translating reliability findings into actionable work, supporting capital planning decisions, and advancing continuous improvement initiatives for critical wastewater infrastructure. This posting will create a six-month eligibility list for current and future openings.Minimum QualificationsAny of the following combinations of experience in reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, maintenance management, asset lifecycle management, asset management, condition monitoring, preventive or predictive maintenance, utility operations, industrial operations, engineering project management, or a closely related field and completed education (degree field of study in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, maintenance management, asset management, reliability engineering, engineering technology, or a closely related field):A high school diploma/GED with seven (7) years of experience.An associate degree with five (5) years of experience.A bachelor's degree with three (3) years of experience.A master's degree or higher with one (1) year of experience.Licenses/Certifications: A valid Class D driver's license is required for positions assigned to operate Council vehicles or travel between Council facilities. No specific professional license or certification is required.Desired QualificationsExperience working in water, wastewater, utility, manufacturing, industrial, or other regulated operational environments.Experience applying reliability-centered maintenance, reliability-centered design, root cause analysis, root cause failure analysis, criticality analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, or preventive maintenance optimization methods.Experience using enterprise asset management systems, computerized maintenance management systems, Asset Condition Monitoring software, SCADA systems, databases, Microsoft Power BI, SQL, or related reporting and analysis tools.Experience with predictive maintenance or condition monitoring technologies such as vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, or related methods.Experience supporting asset management plans, lifecycle cost analysis, capital planning, asset replacement planning, or long-term investment planning.Experience coordinating cross-functional project teams, facilitating technical discussions, preparing technical reports, or delivering training on reliability practices.Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional, Certified Reliability Leader, or other related reliability, asset management, predictive maintenance, or condition monitoring certification.Experience working with diverse populations of internal and external customers.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of asset management, reliability engineering, reliability-centered maintenance, asset lifecycle management, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and maintenance strategy development principles and practices.Knowledge of wastewater operations, utility or industrial systems, maintenance management, process management, continuous improvement, and risk-based decision-making practices.Knowledge of asset condition monitoring technologies and methods, including vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, and other condition monitoring or predictive maintenance tools.Knowledge of enterprise asset management systems, computerized maintenance management systems, Asset Condition Monitoring software, SCADA systems, databases, and related technical systems used to collect, analyze, and report asset information.Knowledge of reliability metrics, key performance indicators, data analysis, statistical methods, predictive modeling concepts, asset criticality frameworks, and performance management methods.Skill in analyzing failure trends, maintenance history, asset condition information, operational data, and reliability performance measures to identify risks, patterns, and improvement opportunities.Skill in conducting or supporting root cause failure analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, criticality analysis, preventive maintenance optimization, and defect elimination efforts.Skill in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating maintenance strategies, asset management plans, corrective actions, work plans, reports, dashboards, and continuous improvement initiatives.Skill in written, verbal, presentation, facilitation, technical writing, data visualization, project coordination, and stakeholder communication.Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, identify and sequence work, exercise independent judgment, and make recommendations based on reliability, risk, asset condition, cost, and operational impact.Ability to collaborate effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Process Engineering, Asset Condition Monitoring, planning and scheduling teams, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.Ability to explain complex technical and analytical information to technical and non-technical audiences and support the practical implementation of reliability improvements.Additional InformationUnion/Grade: AFSCME / Grade G FLSA: Exempt - Professional Safety Sensitive: Yes - Non-DOT Work Environment: Work is performed in a standard office setting and in wastewater treatment facilities, maintenance areas, process areas, and other operational environments. Positions may require travel between the primary work site and other Council facilities or external sites. When visiting operational facilities, personnel may be required to use personal protective equipment, such as safety boots, safety glasses, hard hats, hearing protection, or other required equipment. Work may involve exposure to machinery, uneven surfaces, wet or humid conditions, dust, fumes, chemicals, heights, heated materials, steam, or other facility-related hazards.
