Traveling Fiber Technician

Fiber TechnicianLINX is hiring Fiber Technicians for its travel-based team that deploys to enterprise, hyperscale, and hyperscale data center builds across the country. This is a 100% travel role. You will work project to project across the country, splicing, testing, and installing fiber infrastructure alongside experienced technicians who will train you on ribbon and single fiber fusion splicing, inspection scopes, and Visual Fault Locators.If you want to work in a trade that stays in demand as data centers and fiber networks expand nationwide, and you want to see the country while you do it, this is the role for you.Pay: $30.00 to $40.00/hourWhat You'll Be DoingFiber Fundamentals and InstallationIdentify fiber optic color codes, ribbon numbering, and cable types including ribbon, loose tube, armored, distribution, and micro cableHandle fiber optic cable while maintaining bend radius and cable integrityInstall fiber raceway, basket tray, ladder rack, Unistrut, and cable supportsAssist with fiber termination, panel installation, and splice enclosure installationLabel cables, panels, and splice trays accuratelyCable Preparation, Splicing, and TestingPrepare fiber cables, closures, and enclosures for splicing, including ribbon separation and loose tube accessPerform ribbon and single fiber fusion splicing under the direction of experienced techniciansClean and prepare fibers for splicing using proper fiber preparation hand toolsUse inspection scopes and Visual Fault Locators to verify splice qualityAssist with fiber testing, basic troubleshooting, and restoration activities under supervisionDocumentationComplete daily paperwork and production reports accurately for each project siteDocument splice results, test data, and as built informationMaintain accurate labeling and organization of fiber infrastructure recordsSafety and ProfessionalismFollow company safety policies, client site procedures, and direction from crew leadership at every project locationMaintain accountability for company tools, materials, and equipment across multiple job sitesKeep work areas organized and properly dispose of fiber shards and jobsite wasteRepresent LINX professionally at every customer site nationwide, including sites with strict client access and conduct standardsMinimum RequirementsRequired1-2+ years experience with telecommunications, structured cabling, electrical, or low-voltage commercial construction.6 months fiber splicing experienceFamiliarity with fiber optic cable types and color codes.Exposure to fiber optic testing utilizing OTDR's.1+ year experience working in commercial facilities or data centers.1+ year experience with cable tray, ladder rack, raceway, Unistrut, or other cable support systems.1+ year experience using basic fiber optic hand and preparation tools.Willingness and ability to travel nationally on a continuous basisValid driver's license and current auto insuranceAbility to work effectively as part of a traveling field crew, including with crew members and leadership you have not worked with beforePreferredExperience working in hyperscale data centersHigh density ribbon fiber splicing experience of 864 strand or higherPrior hyperscale or enterprise ISP fiber deployment experienceCompensation and BenefitsPay Rate: $30.00 to $40.00/hour401(k) with 50% employer match on the first 5% contributedMedical, dental, and vision insurance with FSA and HSA optionsShort and long-term disability coverage3 weeks PTO (vacation and sick combined)8 paid holidaysManufacturer training and certification supportMeals & Incidental Per Diem paid for all travelAbout LINXFounded in 2003 by working industry practitioners, LINX has grown into a national commercial low voltage contractor with completed projects in all 50 states.
