Position Status:Full timeShift:Variable 12 hour shift (United States of America)Hours per week:36Job InformationExemption Status: Non-ExemptA Brief OverviewPerioperative nursing is a specialty within the nursing profession that encompasses the care of individuals across the life span who are undergoing a surgical procedure or procedure requiring anesthesia. Perioperative nursing incorporates the pre-procedure care, intra operative and acute post-operative care. The Perioperative nurse will use a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Perioperative nursing can range from routine, elective procedures to highly complex procedures to trauma. Perioperative nurses have adapted nursing process to include strict adherence to the surgical safety checklists, sterility, surgical counts and post-operative airway, pain and nausea management. Perioperative nurses will educate patients about post-operative care management and provide same day discharge instructions.Education QualificationsBachelors of Science: Nursing (BSN) PreferredSkills and AbilitiesDemonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. (Required proficiency)Licenses and CertificationsRegistered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. RequiredBasic Life Support - BLS Must have within 90 days of hire.RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.What you will doProvides direct patient care as defined within the scope of the state’s nurse practice act. Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiological and cognitive status. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.Formulates a prioritized and goal directed plan of care, which is based on patient’s presenting problems and projected outcomes.Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent manner, while promoting the continuum of care.Functions to establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies. Prepares equipment and aids provider during treatment, examination and testing of patients.Evaluates the effectiveness of the health care process (self, systems, environment, and instrumentation) in meeting outcomes. Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to provider. Provides medication as directed.Documents in patient and department records in a timely, accurate and concise manner according to department standards. Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Compiles tests and examination results.Adheres to Universal Protocol and completes surgical safety checklist.
