Audio Visual Specialist

Work Environment: Onsite / Multiple Local Facilities Level: Mid-Level Employment Type: Contract The Opportunity CornerStone Technology Talent Services is seeking an experienced Audio-Visual Specialist to support a large, multi-facility enterprise environment in the Arlington area. This is not simply an A/V support or conference-room technician position. We are looking for an A/V professional who can evaluate business needs, assess system designs, challenge vendor recommendations, review pricing and bills of material, and help ensure that technology investments deliver the right solution at the right value. You will work with stakeholders across a variety of environments, including executive and conference rooms, large meeting spaces, training facilities, public-facing venues, event spaces, and hospitality-style locations. The ideal candidate understands both the technical and commercial sides of enterprise A/V and can confidently work with internal customers, manufacturers, integrators, and vendors from requirements gathering through implementation. What You’ll Be Doing Partner with business and technology stakeholders to identify, document, and translate A/V requirements into practical technical solutions. Evaluate proposed A/V architectures, equipment selections, and system designs for functionality, scalability, usability, and cost. Review vendor and systems-integrator proposals, including Bills of Material (BOMs), equipment pricing, labor estimates, manufacturer discounts, and implementation costs . Determine whether proposed pricing and configurations are reasonable and competitive within the commercial A/V market. Recommend appropriate displays, projectors, microphones, speakers, audio processors, conferencing platforms, control systems, digital signage, and related technologies. Review and interpret technical drawings, signal-flow diagrams, schematics, elevations, and A/V system documentation. Develop and maintain technology standards, system specifications, and design guidelines for repeatable A/V deployments. Participate in site surveys and facility assessments to evaluate infrastructure, room conditions, mounting requirements, connectivity, power, acoustics, and installation considerations. Coordinate with internal teams, A/V integrators, manufacturers, contractors, and other technical partners during implementations and upgrades. Validate completed installations against approved designs and requirements. Provide technical guidance when complex A/V issues are escalated and recommend sustainable corrective actions. Support multiple concurrent A/V projects across different facilities and stakeholder groups. Stay current on commercial A/V technologies, manufacturer roadmaps, conferencing platforms, integration practices, and industry pricing trends. Prepare clear technical documentation, recommendations, project summaries, and presentations for both technical and nontechnical stakeholders. What We’re Looking For Required Experience 3+ years of professional experience supporting, designing, evaluating, integrating, or consulting on commercial or enterprise audio-visual systems . Strong working knowledge of enterprise A/V technologies, including: Commercial displays and projection systems Microphones and speaker systems Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) Audio mixers and amplification A/V control systems Digital signage Switching, distribution, and signal-routing technologies Experience reviewing A/V Bills of Material, vendor proposals, equipment pricing, labor estimates, and technical designs . Ability to read and interpret A/V schematics, signal-flow diagrams, technical drawings, and system documentation. Understanding of commercial A/V installation and integration practices. Experience conducting site assessments or participating in A/V implementation projects. Strong analytical skills with the ability to compare competing technical solutions and identify unnecessary cost, design gaps, or alternative approaches. Excellent communication skills with the ability to gather requirements from nontechnical stakeholders and translate them into technical recommendations. Ability to manage multiple projects, facilities, vendors, and competing priorities. Depth in commercial A/V environments and the ability to quickly evaluate unfamiliar technologies are more important than checking every technology box. Preferred Qualifications CTS-D, CTS-I, or comparable advanced A/V certification Manufacturer certifications from Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Shure, or similar vendors Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Audio Engineering, Communications Technology, Electronics, or a related discipline Experience supporting government, municipal, healthcare, education, hospitality, large enterprise, or other multi-facility environments Experience working directly with commercial A/V integrators and manufacturers Familiarity with structured cabling, networking, AV-over-IP, and networked A/V technologies Equivalent hands-on professional experience will be considered in place of a degree. The Person Who Will Excel Here The strongest candidate will be someone who can walk into a room, talk with the people who use the space, understand what they are trying to accomplish, evaluate the existing technology, and determine what actually needs to change. You should be equally comfortable discussing user requirements with a department leader, reviewing a technical design with an integrator, questioning a line item on a vendor proposal, and walking a facility to identify implementation considerations. This role is especially well suited for an experienced A/V Systems Specialist, A/V Engineer, A/V Design Consultant, Unified Communications / Collaboration Specialist, A/V Project Engineer, or Senior A/V Technician who wants broader ownership of technology decisions and projects.
