Job Overview

We are seeking a Seasonal Environmental Educator to deliver engaging environmental education programs for schools, families, community groups, and the general public. This role focuses on connecting visitors with nature through hands-on learning, outdoor activities, and conservation education.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead environmental education programs, including guided hikes, ranger stations, tram tours, and group activities.
• Provide educational presentations on natural resources, habitats, and conservation topics.
• Supervise and manage groups of children in a safe and engaging environment.
• Prepare program materials, organize supplies, set up learning stations, and assist with educational content development.
• Support operations at Polk’s Nature Discovery Center and provide a positive visitor experience.
• Assist with outreach events, community programs, and environmental education workshops.
• Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, visitors, and community members.
• Support environmental land management activities, including work at Circle B Bar Reserve.

Qualifications & Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in environmental education, teaching, recreation, camp programs, or natural resource management preferred.
• Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and natural habitats preferred.
• Strong communication, public speaking, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently outdoors in various conditions.
• Comfortable hiking 3+ miles while presenting programs and lifting up to 45 lbs. occasionally.
• Ability to supervise large groups of children.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; GIS experience is a plus.
• Must be available to work a flexible schedule (minimum 3 days per week).

Preferred Experience

• Environmental education or public speaking experience.
• Knowledge of Central Florida ecosystems.
• Experience with natural areas management.
• Teaching, camp counseling, recreation, or youth program experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Illustrator, or PageMaker.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license (required for applicable levels).
• Successful completion of required background checks.
• Completion of county defensive driving course.
• Completion of Affidavit of Good Moral Character.

Experience Levels Available:

• Opportunities available for candidates ranging from entry-level to those with 1–3+ years of experience in environmental education or natural resource management. Related education and training may substitute for experience requirements.
