Campus Police Officer

Position Overview

The University is seeking a Campus Police Officer for the Department of Public Safety. This is a full‑time, in‑person position with 24/7 coverage on the William Paterson University campus.

Responsibilities

• Patrol campus buildings and grounds on foot or vehicle to ensure safety and security.
• Respond to incidents, enforce state laws, and manage traffic on campus.
• Conduct investigations, record reports, and preserve evidence.
• Coordinate with municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
• Assist with special events, provide police escort, and administer first aid.
• Operate radios and body‑worn cameras, maintain vehicle and equipment.
• Participate in ongoing training, including active shooter and sexual assault response.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18, U.S. citizenship, NewJersey resident with valid driver’s license.
• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Successful completion of the NJ Police Training Commission Basic Course within 9 months of hire.
• Ability to pass medical, psychological, drug test, and background investigation.
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse populations, and sound judgment.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary $69,244.57. Eligible for health, dental, and retirement benefits. Full benefits information available on the university website.
