Job Description Summary

The Associate Chief Operating Officer (ACOO) serves as the senior operational executive at MUSC Health Orangeburg. The ACOO is responsible for driving operational excellence, efficiency, financial and capital performance, quality and safety outcomes, and patient experience across inpatient, ambulatory, procedural, and surgical environments.

Operating within a complex academic health system, the ACOO partners closely with physician leaders, nursing leadership, and administrative executives to integrate clinical, academic, and operational priorities. The role places significant emphasis on performance management, capital stewardship, culture building, leadership development, and stakeholder engagement in support of tertiary and quaternary care growth.

Scope of Responsibility

• Facilities: MUSC Health Orangeburg

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree in healthcare administration, hospital administration, business administration, public health, or a related field.


• Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience, with at least five (5) years in healthcare operations.


• Experience in a complex academic medical center environment required.


• Demonstrated expertise in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L oversight.


• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a highly matrixed organization.


• Strong executive presence with the ability to influence without direct authority.


• Exceptional communication, change leadership, and operational execution skills.

Preferred Requirements

• Senior leadership experience in children’s hospitals and/or women’s services operations.


• Experience overseeing capital projects and facility-based operational initiatives in an academic medical center.


• Demonstrated success driving operational efficiency, throughput improvement, and financial performance.
