Instructor, Nursing Assistant (Part-time)

Learn more about MATC at Responsibilities Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities. Manage the classroom/laboratory. Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program/department evaluation. Manage equipment, supplies and materials. Assess student performance. Advise students on academic issues. Collaborate with advisory committee in program/department area. Attend departmental and institutional meetings. Promote the education/training program/department, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to promote educational opportunities at MATC. Support student organizations and activities. Develop relationships with business and industry. Complete program/department evaluation and follow-up. Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field. Other related duties as assigned. Educational Requirements Associate's degree or higher in Nursing. Must meet the determination of faculty assumed practice under the Higher Learning Commission. Occupational Experience Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent (4000 hours) experience as a Registered Nurse. At least one (1) year verifiable work experience as a registered nurse in a long-term care or nursing home setting, such as a home health agency, hospice, or intermediate care facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Desired Experience At least one (1) year of work experience within the last five (5) years. Two (2) years of teaching Nursing, including Practical, Registered, or Nurse Aide (Nursing Assistant) coursework within the last five (5) years. Industry or Vendor Certification Required Completed a course in teaching adults or supervising Nurse Aides (Nursing Assistant). Graduate degree holders may submit a waiver for instructional experience. Ability to achieve approval within 30 days of hire from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Department of Quality Assurance as a Primary Instructor upon meeting the criteria above. License Must hold a current, unencumbered (good standing) license as a registered nurse issued by the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Previous teaching experience preferred. Experience teaching and/or developing curriculum in a variety of classroom environments, including in-person and online. Experience using a variety of instructional methods, including face-to-face, blended, and 100% online. Ability to develop and maintain curriculum currency. Working knowledge of computers and software related to the instructional area, including MS Office, Google Suite, data systems, mobile technologies, web conference tools, and social networking; familiarity with Blackboard or similar learning management systems preferred. Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learning strongly required. Effective communication skills, both oral and written. Knowledge of assessment of student academic competency attainment. Ability to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds. Demonstrated commitment to Standards of Teaching Excellence and MATC Career Essentials. Essential Technology Email – experience with an email system (Gmail, Outlook). Telephone – experience with a voicemail system. Computer – experience with Microsoft Office Suite or Google applications. Essential Supportive Technology Online Information Management Systems – experience with self-service or other online systems used for student advising, grading, scheduling, and rosters. Blackboard Ultra – experience with Blackboard or other web-based course management systems. Technology-based Instruction – experience with classroom technology such as SMART boards, interactive touch screens, LCD projectors, DVD players, and other instruments. Emerging Technologies – experience with social networking applications. Healthcare Physical Requirements Must satisfactorily complete health requirements for the School of Health Science, which include a criminal background check, drug test, and verification of immunizations. Ability to lift 50 pounds with or without accommodation. Ability to sit or stand for class duration with or without accommodation. Compensation and Work Hours Part-time faculty pool position. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, and will vary in hours and days based on course availability and departmental needs each semester. Teaching modalities may include in-person, online, and/or hybrid. Teaching times may be daytime, evening, or weekend. Hourly wage is $40 per course hour of teaching, plus additional $70 per hour for office hours and preparation time. Start date: position supports the Healthcare Pathway and is available to start in the fall semester.
