Seasonal Lifeguard Position

This summer seasonal position is responsible for prevention of injuries and drowning by enforcing pool rules. Trains for and carries out the Emergency Action Plan, not limited to, but including: responding to swimmer/wader water-related emergencies, responding to sudden illness, providing first aid, teaching swimming lessons, conducting water tests, cleaning the facility and equipment, and provides excellent customer service.

Hours will vary based on candidate availability, department needs, and weather.

The following duties are typical of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.

• Prevent drowning, accident and injury by enforcing pool rules and responding to emergencies.
• In the event of an emergency or sudden illness, follow the Emergency Action Plan.
• Perform rescues, CPR and AED in accordance with American Red Cross protocols and training.
• Attends and actively participates in weekly in-service training.
• Conduct regular water readings and respond according to the findings.
• Teach swimming lessons and test students to insure they have completed all the necessary skills before advancing them to the next level.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment to include, but not limited to: pool, deck, locker/rest rooms, office space, first aid station.
• Provide excellent customer service.

Qualifications:

• Must hold a current lifeguard certification in accordance with approved certifying agencies as listed in the WI Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. (ATCP) Chapter 76.
• Must comply with age limits designated in ATCP Chapter 76.
• Must successfully complete the department's pre-employment lifeguard skills test.

Starting hourly rate for Lifeguard is $13.00 year one, $13.25 year two, and $13.50 year three. This is a seasonal position and there are no benefits.

High Physical Requirements - Job requires significant physical exertion, with tasks that involve more active movement. This job may include standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, or engaging in manual labor.
