Citi Wealth: Private Bank - UHNW Banker - Managing Director

The Private Banker Function Group Manager manages a team of senior professionals. The role requires a broad and comprehensive understanding of the different systems, theories and practices relevant to a financial function, along with practical experience across multiple business cycles. This position demands in‑depth knowledge of the industry and direct competitors’ products and services to contribute to the company's commercial objectives. The manager needs a thorough understanding of the strategy of the business function and a solid grounding in both concept and practice. Excellent communication skills are required for influencing a wide range of audiences. The role is likely to involve both internal and external negotiations that can impact the area, the wider organization and other related areas. The manager develops medium‑to‑long‑term plans and executes functional strategies for the market under management, coordinating and integrating across units.

Responsibilities

• Grow the existing client business and pursue an acquisition strategy for UHNW target names, requiring deep market knowledge and a proven track record in business growth.
• Drive revenue and be accountable for the team’s revenue goals.
• Work closely with the Global Market Manager (GMM) to lead team activities.
• Coach and guide team members, helping them develop and share sales ideas across the team and wider organization.
• Coordinate client calling and prospecting among team members and share best practice.
• Work with the GMM to achieve overall team revenue and growth objectives.
• Lead the development and implementation of marketing and client events for the team.
• Assist team members in executing their account plans by providing guidance on specific deals and clients.
• Provide ongoing performance feedback, including formal mid‑year and year‑end reviews.
• Demonstrate an in‑depth understanding of clients’ businesses and their sources of wealth generation.
• Anticipate events in a client’s life and business that have significant financial implications.
• Bring together product experts to develop long‑term solutions that strengthen client relationships.
• Help clients achieve broad financial and investment goals related to the creation, management, and transfer of wealth.
• Develop tailored solutions addressing clients’ unique investment, risk management, and finance/liquidity needs.
• Monitor progress against goals and adjust strategies to achieve objectives.
• Plan and prioritise daily, weekly and monthly activities to maximise revenue growth and client satisfaction.
• Remove non‑productive accounts to focus on clients aligned with the business strategy.
• Establish a referral network and obtain introductions to potential clients that generate new sales.
• Close deals, making concessions that align with the bank’s core interests.
• Help team members build credibility with clients and intermediaries.
• Commit strongly to team success and place team goals above personal achievement.
• Collaborate with the GMM and other team leaders to drive the business.
• Encourage collaborative work with the wider business to deepen client relationships and exceed sales goals.
• Match complementary experience and skill sets within the team to maximise client effectiveness.
• Build and maintain relationships with business partners, colleagues and staff.
• Develop strong relationships with support functions across the institution to maintain control and resolve issues.
• Follow standard procedures, advocate appropriate exceptions, and secure approvals when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and minimise potential liability for the bank.
• Maintain strong controls and effective operational and administrative services.
• Set an example of behaviour for all employees.
• Partner with colleagues across the network to leverage capabilities and share expertise.
• Ensure clients experience seamless execution of internal processes and the institution’s services.
• Prioritise issues that need escalation, involving the right people to expedite resolution.
• Assess risk when making business decisions, protecting the institution’s reputation, and supervising others to uphold compliance and ethical standards.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience.
• Extensive and proven experience in private banking, covering the UHNW market, and leading client teams and transactions.
• Demonstrated track record in relationship selling.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred.
