Details Float pool position supporting multiple Med/Surg units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology Facility is a 492-bed Level I Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center Assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation 12-hour night shifts beginning at 7:00 pm, with a 48-hour work week Patient ratios typically 1:4-6 depending on unit and acuity Telemetry is monitored by dedicated techs, but RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours Floating required to like units (MedSurg to MedSurg, MedSurg to ICU for tasks, MedSurg to ER/MedSurg holds, ICU to ICU, ICU to MedSurg for tasks, ICU to ER/ICU holds) No on-call requirements Weekend rotation of every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month EMR is Cerner, with Epic experience also considered (Cerner required if experience is strictly ICU) Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing system, and Spacelabs monitors Requirements Active RN license (Alabama or Compact) required Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required Minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience required Cerner or Epic EMR experience required Experience with wound care, IV starts, chest tubes, trach care, PEG/NGT, drains, and medication administration/documentation depending on assigned unit Ability to perform patient turning, bathing, and ADL assistance Additional Information First-time travelers will be considered for this position Support staff on units may include CNAs, HUC/receptionists, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists Orientation for travelers new to the facility or returning after 1 years includes 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy Facility maintains blackout dates for RTO requests throughout the year, including major holidays and select weekends Time off requests can be approved for up to 7 days, excluding blackout dates which require additional approval Any scrub color is accepted Free parking is available in the parking deck, levels 2 through 4 Local candidates are not accepted due to a 60-mile radius rule Former staff must wait 6 months from their last shift worked before returning as a traveler American Traveler Job ID P-748845.
