Background Investigator

Background Investigator (FT Employee) – Salisbury Mills, NY Must reside within 50 miles of Salisbury Mills, NY. Responsibilities Successfully complete mandatory 6-7 week background investigator training (virtual & in-person) to certification in Federal Investigative Standards. Travel daily to conduct in-person background investigations for personnel requiring access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information. Schedule and conduct face‑to‑face interviews with subjects and associates (neighbors, employers, friends, family). Perform record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational, financial, medical, and mental health institutions. Type and report all obtained information in a clear, concise report using a government‑issued computer system. Work independently and as part of a team of investigators under a Field Manager. Qualifications Candidates with 4 years (or 3) of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree; experience conducting federal background investigations preferred. Must obtain and maintain TS‑eligible clearance; active federal background investigation with T5 adjudication preferred. U.S. citizenship. Daily local and out‑of‑area travel required. Home office required. TDY / remote travel of 14–30 days possible. Must reside within stated mileage limit. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; motor vehicle records may be checked. Motor vehicle insurance must be sufficient. Typing speed ≥40 WPM; ability to use multiple programs concurrently. Excellent listening, speaking, reading, and transcription skills with high accuracy. Proficient grammar and writing skills for mandatory report quality. Professional demeanor, punctuality, and detail orientation while in field. Must maintain confidentiality, ethics, and integrity.
