Position Title: School Nurse

Qualifications

• Appropriate Licensure/Certification, RN/LPN
• CPR Certified Other qualifications appropriate to the school assigned.

Reports To:

Building Principal or person designated by the Superintendent or the Board of Education.

Job Summary:

The School Nurse provides emergency health care services; administers tests, utilizes subjective and objective Information to identify health—related problems or handicapping conditions; makes the necessary referrals to Health care providers; present health education; serves as a resource person and consultant to faculty, family, Students and health care providers.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Provide emergency health care
• Assess and evaluate health and developmental status of students.
• Interpret health status and test results concerning students for parents and school personnel.
• Counsel students, parents and school personnel in the IEP and RTI team effort in planning actions for eliminating, minimizing or accepting health problems which may inhibit optimum learning conditions.
• Serve as a resource person for school personnel, students and parents.
• Serve as a liaison between school, community, parents and health care providers.
• Work with school personnel to modify educational programs when health or developmental status warrants change.
• Serves as a health consultant and resource person in health instruction curriculum planning by providing current scientific information.
• Ensure current Colorado Health Laws and school district policies are adhered to.
• Maintain documentation of all testing and health related statistics for students.
• Provide following services; assist with athletic physicals, govern status of personnel physicals, provide dental health care education, ensure immunization completion for each student, administer tests for vision, hearing and scoliosis with proper referrals of abnormal results, hold kindergarten pre—enrollment, present many health related programs in class, and complete reports for filing with the State Department of Health.
• Prepares health updates for Special Education students regarding specific annual and tri-annual reviews.
• Updates the Emergency Kit in each school annually.

Terms of Employment Ten, eleven or twelve month year. Salary and work year is to be established by Trinidad School District #1 Board of Education.

Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Trinidad School District #1 Board of Education regarding Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
