Executive Director

Lead strategic risk functions across Risk Programs, Operational Risk Management, Model Risk Management, and Data & AI Risk for USAA Life Insurance Company Serve as a key member of the LifeCo Risk Leadership Team and report directly to the VP and Chief Risk Officer of USAA Life Insurance Company Define and modernize a business-aligned risk management framework supporting innovation and safety and soundness Establish comprehensive oversight and management of risks across the full risk taxonomy Simplify and tailor risk programs, operational risk processes and model risk governance Establish governance for AI models, data quality and emerging technology risks Engage senior leaders in strategy discussions, evaluate risks in real time and provide effective challenge Ensure risk aligns with appetites, tolerances, strategic goals, product plans and forecasts Lead, develop and coach a high-performing risk management team Set the agenda, build diverse teams and communicate the vision Ensure appropriate policies, procedures and controls support risk processes, systems, strategies and implementations Maintain and adapt risk systems amid regulatory change and emerging technologies Build trust with senior business leaders and sustain the second-line risk oversight role Partner with senior risk executives on risk appetite, methods, metrics and limits Partner across Risk Management, Finance and the business while challenging variances and mitigation strategies Advise business partners and drive risk/reward decisions through effective challenge Engage line-of-business leaders to address risks consistently with policy and Risk Appetite Liaise with Compliance and CLO on legal and regulatory considerations affecting operations and product offerings Influence sound governance structures for oversight of risks and business operations Requirements Bachelor's degree, or 4 years of relevant education and/or experience 10 or more years of related business/risk experience developing strategies, managing major initiatives and delivering results in a large financial institution or professional business services environment 4 years of people leadership experience building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams Experience implementing an enterprise-wide risk management program adhering to regulatory requirements and expectations Significant knowledge of risk frameworks, including risk governance, risk appetite, process/risk/control analysis, control effectiveness measurement, and risk management coverage plans Ability to influence at senior organizational levels Capability to communicate effectively across the 1st and 2nd Lines of Defense and build collaborative relationships Strong written and oral communication skills, including communicating complex analyses to non-technical audiences Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skills Deep knowledge of the life insurance regulatory environment, including state insurance regulations, NAIC risk management and solvency frameworks including ORSA, statutory accounting principles, capital and reserve requirements, model risk governance, product and underwriting risk oversight, third-party risk management, operational resilience, and applicable federal laws, regulations and supervisory guidance Deep Life Insurance risk management expertise overseeing complex risk frameworks within a life insurer Leadership experience across Operational Risk Management and Model Risk Management Experience governing emerging technologies, advanced analytics, data quality and artificial intelligence risks Track record modernizing, simplifying and transforming risk management programs Strategic leadership and executive influence skills Must not require immigration support now or in the future; USAA does not provide visa sponsorship Core Competencies Demonstrates extensive expertise in risk management frameworks, including Operational Risk Management and Model Risk Management, while effectively leading high-performing teams and influencing senior leadership.
