Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Claims Litigation Manager to oversee and manage complex, litigated General Liability (GL) insurance claims. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical claims expertise, extensive litigation management experience, and the ability to develop effective strategies for resolving complex liability disputes.

This position requires sound judgment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with defense counsel, insurers, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of complex, litigated commercial General Liability claims from assignment through resolution.
• Develop and implement litigation strategies to achieve favorable outcomes while controlling legal expenses.
• Direct and oversee outside defense counsel, including litigation plans, budgets, discovery, depositions, motions, mediations, and trials.
• Evaluate liability, damages, coverage issues, and potential exposure to establish appropriate claim reserves and settlement strategies.
• Review and analyze pleadings, discovery materials, expert reports, medical records, and other litigation documents.
• Negotiate settlements and participate in mediations and settlement conferences.
• Prepare comprehensive claim evaluations, litigation reports, and recommendations for insurers and other stakeholders.
• Monitor litigation developments, ensure compliance with applicable regulations, and maintain accurate claim documentation.
• Identify opportunities for early resolution and cost-effective claim management.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years of experience managing litigated commercial General Liability insurance claims.
• Valid insurance adjuster license.
• Extensive knowledge of liability claims handling, litigation procedures, and settlement negotiations.
• Demonstrated experience directing outside defense counsel and managing complex litigation.
• Strong understanding of insurance coverage, liability evaluation, damages assessment, and reserving practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed reports and clearly communicate litigation strategies.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage multiple complex matters independently while meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience handling New York Labor Law claims, particularly Sections 200, 240, and 241, is a plus.
• Professional insurance designations, such as CPCU, AIC, or SCLA, are a plus.
• Experience handling premises liability, construction liability, and serious bodily injury claims.
• Experience working with commercial insurers, third-party administrators, and specialty insurance markets.
• Experience handling high-exposure claims involving multiple defendants, contractual indemnification, and additional insured issues.
