Principal Engineer - Auto Finance Platform

About this role:Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to support the Auto Finance systems within consumer technology. The goal is to improve reliability, reduce time to detect and resolve issues, and ensure consistent data flow supporting critical customer engagement channels. You will join a focused team of engineers and application support professionals driving adoption of observability, automation, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices across Auto Finance Technology. The team partners closely with data engineering, platform teams, and vendors to deliver stable, scalable, and highly visible systems. The role supports all aspects of the platform lifecycle—from instrumentation and monitoring design to incident response and continuous improvement—ensuring strong operational health, proactive alerting, and resilient data pipelines across distributed systems. Learn more about career areas and business divisions at .In this role, you will:Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groupsLead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinkingTranslate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutionsProvide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutionsMaintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organizationStrategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadershipRequired Qualifications:7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education5+ years designing and implementing observability solutions (e.g., Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry)3+ years of experience with cloud and container platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift)Desired Qualifications:Experience with databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and strong SQL skillsFamiliarity with Java-based applications and performance monitoring (JVM metrics, heap/thread analysis)Knowledge of data governance and compliance frameworksExperience troubleshooting OS-level and infrastructure-related issuesExperience supporting both commercial off-the-shelf and custom-built applicationsStrong analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvementExperience working in Agile or Kanban environmentsMaintain strong visibility into risks, controls, and platform health across Marketing TechnologyEnsure observability coverage supports risk management and compliance requirementsPartner with engineering, product, and vendor teams to maintain a stable and scalable ecosystemDrive continuous improvement in monitoring, automation, and operational practicesPay RangeReflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location.
