Additional Information About the Role This PRN role will support our BJC SAFE Program. Must have completed the SANE course and be willing to travel between BJC entities. Role Purpose A BJC Central Staffing Office nurse will be required to float to 12 BJC Healthcare Hospitals within Medical, Surgical, and Telemetry units. Provide direct patient care activities including assessment/evaluation, diagnosis, and plan implementation on the general nursing floor based on nursing expertise and certification/licensure. Provide opportunities to expand nursing skills through caring for patients with varying conditions and treatment plans while building professional relationships across the BJC Healthcare system. Must be flexible, adaptable, resourceful, have strong confidence in nursing practice, and promote exceptional patient and family–centered care. Responsibilities Utilize leadership skills by advocating, coordinating, and collaborating with patients, families, significant others, and members of the interprofessional team to assess needs, plan interventions, provide care, and evaluate outcomes. Employ effective leadership skills to foster a healthy work environment within the practice setting by serving as a mentor and role model for nursing colleagues, students, and others. Practice effective communication to participate with patients, families, significant others, and other health‑care providers in collaborative decision making that reflects culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, humane, and economically appropriate care. Educate patients, families, and significant others about measures that promote, maintain, and restore health or promote comfort. Apply standards of medical‑surgical nursing practice to increase the quality of care and quality of life for patients, families, and significant others with acutely ill patients in a highly technical and ongoing monitoring environment, addressing life‑threatening problems with extensive medication protocols and therapies. Demonstrate competency in evaluating intensive care patients, administering care, recognizing complications, and systematically evaluating nursing practice quality and effectiveness. Establish effective relationships and serve as an advocate to facilitate development of a unique care plan tailored to the patient’s needs using the nursing process to develop and implement the plan, collect assessment data, determine appropriate diagnoses, identify expected outcomes, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes. Develop assessment and management strategies that consider physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure dimensions of human responses to actual and potential health problems. Prioritize medical and mental health care for various acuity levels, quickly recognize and effectively treat life‑threatening conditions while rapidly prioritizing and delivering appropriate care. Participate in activities that promote safety, quality, regulatory compliance, professional development, and lifelong learning. This is a safety‑sensitive position; the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safety is essential. Minimum Requirements Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate’s in Nursing.
