Job Title: Regional Medical Director

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Regional Medical Director (RMD) to provide clinical leadership, direct patient care, medical oversight, and regional operational support across healthcare facilities. The RMD will work closely with Nurse Practitioners, physicians, clinical staff, patients, families, case management teams, and organizational leadership to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care and continuity of services.

The ideal candidate is an experienced physician leader with strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and evolving healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct clinical care and physician support to patients when required.
• Collaborate with specialists, hospitalists, emergency physicians, long-term care staff, case managers, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate clinical management and continuity of care.
• Conduct daily telephonic rounds with assigned Nurse Practitioners and provide clinical guidance based on evidence-based medicine.
• Communicate directly with patients and their families when clinically appropriate.
• Ensure completion and accurate documentation of required clinical records, including H&P, SOAP notes, Annual Wellness Visits, ACO quality measures, Advance Directives, and POLST documentation.
• Participate in backup on-call coverage, including weekends and/or weekdays as needed.
• Review and analyze regional clinical and operational performance metrics.
• Develop and implement performance improvement plans in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer.
• Prepare quarterly regional performance reports addressing customer satisfaction, staff development, quality improvement, profitability, and growth.

Education & Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited medical school.
• M.D. or D.O. degree.
• Minimum of 5 years of physician experience with direct patient care.
• Experience in leadership, medical direction, or clinical management preferred.

Preferred Experience:

• Long-term care (LTC) and/or skilled nursing facility (SNF) experience.
• Managed care experience, including Medicare Advantage, ACO, or full-risk IPA environments.
• Palliative care and/or hospice experience.
• Experience managing, mentoring, or teaching advanced practice clinicians such as Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants.
• Experience with quality improvement, utilization management, and value-based/risk-based healthcare models.

Required Skills & Abilities:

• Current, unrestricted physician license in California.
• Specialist board certification preferred, particularly in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, or a related specialty.
• Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, clinical staff, and organizational leadership.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Comfortable working in an evolving, entrepreneurial, or start-up environment.
• Self-directed, resourceful, flexible, and willing to take on unfamiliar challenges.
• Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, calendaring, and other healthcare-related software.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across multiple locations and time zones.
• Valid driver's license and access to a reliable, properly insured automobile in accordance with California and organizational requirements.
