Assistant Store Manager Responsibilities Provide best-in-class guest service: greet guests promptly, respond to questions and concerns quickly, assist with gaming needs, inform guests of promotions, recommend additional items, apply all selling behaviors and thank guests for shopping. Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business. Promptly and accurately process purchases, returns, and exchanges using the POS system. Respond to guest comments or questions in person or by phone, escalating issues to the Store Manager when appropriate. Promote GameStop’s guest benefits such as the new title reservations program, trade‑in program, and Pro Rewards loyalty program. Assist the Store Manager with setting guest‑service expectations, training store associates, and maintaining store policies and procedures. Observe and evaluate associate performance, provide timely feedback and recognition, and input written feedback into Workday/HR systems. Ensure all associates complete onboarding, job training, and compliance training before opening or closing a shift. Schedule and manage store associates, ensuring compliance with scheduling guidelines and accounting for breaks and meals. Approve payroll, enter paid time off, make time edits, and verify pay for all time worked. Maintain clean, organized, and merchandised store spaces, including restrooms, fixtures, and equipment. Fulfill and ship omni‑channel orders daily. Protect company assets through effective inventory control and loss‑prevention practices, including inspecting packages, reporting concerns, and maintaining bank deposits. Support the store team in meeting and exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals and completing required administrative duties. Perform inventory counts, restock merchandise, and manage merchandising levels on the sales floor. Count, balance, and reconcile daily business transaction totals, complete close‑out paperwork, ensure cash and change availability, and make bank deposits. Verify shipments for discrepancies and record them in the POS system, communicating issues to management. Process defectives, recalls, and stock pulls accurately and promptly. Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety and report injuries per guidelines. Maintain store records and manuals in an organized manner. Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager’s absence. Consistently adhere to GameStop policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct. Adhere to all opening and closing procedures. Qualifications Proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States. Minimum 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred. At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred. At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, or management experience preferred. Video game knowledge preferred. Key Job Skills and Abilities Outgoing and welcoming personality with strong people skills. Provide genuine and individualized assistance to every guest. Clear verbal and written communication and listening skills; bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Ability to achieve objectives in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing environment. Work independently and within a team to perform assigned tasks in a timely manner. Meet associate performance expectations, including attendance, appearance, safety, and respectful workplace. Operate POS computer system. Basic mathematics and alphabetizing skills. Complete required paperwork properly. Execute financial tasks in accordance with company policy. Work flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays; minimum 3 days/week availability. Manage pressure and adapt to stressful situations while protecting guest interactions. Reliable and trustworthy; good judgment. Work alone, stand and move throughout the store up to 12 hours/day. Perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, lifting up to 30 lbs. up to 4 feet. Understand military ranks (only for stores on military bases).
