Join Cal Water and be part of a purpose‑driven organization where your work makes a lasting impact.The Legal Department of California Water Service (Cal Water) is comprised of a small team of attorneys providing a full range of legal services to Cal Water and its affiliates in Washington, New Mexico, Hawai'i, and Texas.The Paralegal will be an integral part of the Legal Department, providing substantive support for, and independent work on, a range of matters including general civil litigation; corporate, commercial, and real estate transactions; and legal operations issues.The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional and self-starter with a range of experience in one or more of the Department’s primary practice areas: Real Estate, Mergers & Acquisitions, Commercial Contracts, Litigation, and Privacy, but with particular emphasis in real estate and commercial transactions and complex litigation. The ideal candidate will also have a combination of private practice, government, and in-house experience. This position may be located in Torrance, CA or San Jose, CA.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Transactional Drafting: draft general real estate, commercial, and corporate forms, like Rights of Entry, Licenses, Easements, Leases, Deeds, PSAs, MSAs, SOWs, Amendments, and NDAs.Matter Management: organize, manage, and maintain files for litigation, real estate, corporate, and general legal matters.Transaction Support: organize, summarize, and synthesize legal due diligence for real estate and corporate transactions; coordinate and manage real estate due diligence and escrows.Litigation Support: track litigation hold and preservation notices; draft standard demand and cease and desist letters; maintain litigation calendars; organize and coordinate responses to document requests, subpoenas, and other records requests in connection with civil, administrative, and criminal investigations or proceedings.Research: research federal, state, and local statutes, codes, ordinances, and cases; conduct factual or basic research using commercial and public databases; conduct title and real property research.Operations: assist with outside counsel engagements and outside counsel billing; contribute to the development of policies and procedures.Performs work on-site in the assigned office locationOther duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree or Associate Degree with paralegal certificate8+ years of experienceHighly organizedStrong attention to detailExceptional time managementExcellent written and verbal communication skillsPositive “can-do” attitudeProven ability to handle complex and highly confidential matters with discretionIndependent self-starterWilling to embrace technology to promote efficient operationsStrong command of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and WordFamiliarity with Lexis Nexis or WestlawNotary Public License a plusSalary Range:San Jose, CA - $102,000 - $189,400 (DOE)Torrance, CA - $91,800 - $170,500 (DOE)Deadline to submit resume is OPEN UNTIL FILLEDThe Equal Opportunity Policy of the Company is based upon the philosophy that all people should be treated fairly and with dignity.
