Ultrasound Technologist

General Summary PRN Position! Starting range: $35.00–42.00. Anticipated to work anywhere from 20–32 hours per week. Work Location: 2750 S River Rd, Des Plaines, Illinois 60018. Role Overview The Ultrasound Technologist uses sonographic equipment to record images of patients for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate, and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. Responsibilities Select and examine images, search for differences between healthy and pathological areas, and determine if the scope of the exam should be extended based on preliminary findings. Present the sonograms and preliminary findings to physicians. Complete the appropriate documentation and maintain patients’ medical records. Assist physicians and healthcare teams during invasive procedures. Maintain and clean the sonographic equipment. Perform medical procedures such as administering oxygen, taking vital signs, and giving emergency treatments. Assist in the care and handling of equipment, including maintaining and cleaning the sonographic equipment. Insert patient information and personal data into the computer to maintain examination records. Assess the patient’s physical, psychological, and educational needs to obtain an appropriate history prior to each exam. Explain the process to the patient, instruct the patient, and assist the patient in positioning for the exam. Monitor images for quality and adjust as needed. Record optimal anatomical images that are transferred to the PACS system, disc, strip printout, or film to obtain a permanent record. Provide relevant technical information about the patient and exam to facilitate interpretation of the study by the radiologist. Perform other position-related duties as assigned. Adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and comply with all applicable laws and regulations. This includes following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all affiliated practice policies and procedures, maintaining patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA, reporting suspected concerns or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department, and completing annual compliance training. Certifications, Licensures, or Registry Requirements Registration with one of the two recognized medical diagnostic sonography organizations is preferred: The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography or the American Registry of Radiological Technologists. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred. Current R.D.M.S. certification. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of database management. Knowledge and ability to navigate EMR systems. Knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare coding systems, and clinic functions. Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and other third‑party payer guidelines. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to operate imaging technology and machinery. Compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality. Compliance with all health and safety policies of the organization. Education Requirements Associate degree in Ultrasound Technology required. Graduate of an accredited ultrasound technician program required. Experience Requirements Previous ultrasound technologist experience preferred; six months to one year related experience preferred. New graduates will be considered.
