Facilities Coordinator Job Summary: The faculty, students, and staff in the Department of Biomolecular Chemistry (BMC), as part of the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), are engaged in an array of research, teaching, and service activities to meet the needs of our world-class educational institution. The department is housed within the Hector Deluca Biochemical Sciences complex, a state-of-the-art research and instructional complex located on Henry Mall, and has a reputation for carrying out federally funded, high level, competitive biomedical research. The Facilities Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing both emergency and routine building maintenance by conducting daily checks to ensure the proper function of cold rooms, Milli-Q water systems, deionized water, dishwashers, autoclaves, ice machines, and freezers, while also reviewing email daily for reported maintenance issues. The role includes coordinating with the Physical Plant to address building maintenance concerns such as plumbing, heating, mechanical systems (e.g., elevators), lighting, and electrical issues, and communicating with custodial staff to maintain building cleanliness and upkeep. Additionally, the Facilities Coordinator will oversee maintenance of departmental shared equipment by managing service contracts, arranging repairs as needed for equipment such as autoclaves, dishwashers, ice machines, freezers, centrifuges, imagers, and water systems, replacing Milli-Q filters annually, maintaining an inventory of centrifuge components and accessories, and coordinating the placement or relocation of equipment. The position also involves working with principal investigators (PIs) to identify vendors for repair of PI-specific equipment, tracking service-related expenses using a spreadsheet system on a daily to weekly basis, overseeing dry ice deliveries (including backup student support), package delivery support and managing the transfer and inventory of capital equipment, including conducting inventory every three years. Further responsibilities include performing monthly autoclave efficacy testing and posting results, acting as a liaison with the Biochemistry building manager, organizing and maintaining the BMC workshop and tools, and keeping departmental records related to shared equipment and service contracts up to date.

- This position is part-time, 50%
- This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location
- Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 11:00am to 3:00pm
- Terminal, 12 month appointment. This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.
- Building inventory and capital equipment disposal
- Prepares reports of building findings with recommendations to address identified maintenance or facility improvement issues
- Works with PIs and physical plant to repair or replace laboratory equipment
- Coordinates the maintenance of protection systems such as fire panels, smoke/heat detectors, sprinkler systems, and pumps in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry standards including ensuring emergency generators/power systems, rigging systems, and elevators are properly maintained in accordance with industry standards and are operational at all times
- Coordinates scheduled mechanical and electrical services within an area of responsibility, administering preventive maintenance programs for facilities, inspecting facilities to determine repair or replacement needs, and supervising the performance of emergency and routine maintenance on campus facilities within the area of responsibility
- Budgets and monitors costs involved with services including waster services, recycling management and maintenance groups
- Ensures that the work performance of employees in the area of responsibility and maintenance zones or sections as a whole meet standards and expectations
- Ensures buildings are maintained by touring the common areas/public spaces, tracking and identifying needed repairs, and communicating with building managers and department administrators
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner
- Familiarity with Microsoft products; Excel and Google
- Previous science building manager experience
- Equipment maintenance experience
