The Special Procedures Technologist performs invasive procedures partnered with the interventional radiologist. Responsible for patient assessment, education pre and post procedure, and safe care and monitoring of patient during the procedure. Responsible for safe administration of radiation, contrast dosing and image processing. The responsibilities will include, but not limited to, maintaining and operating the specialized vascular C-arm equipment to capture the correct area and produce clear images, applying and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of radiation protection and safety practices, maintaining regulatory required documentation during/after the procedure, and helping to prepare and position the patient for procedures.

Minimum Training and Education: Graduate from an accredited school of radiologic technology and minimum 1 year of experience in interventional radiology preferred and/or graduate of an advanced IR program.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and licensed by the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent). Proactively maintains and renews ARRT, state license, BLS, PPD, respirator fit test, and POC training.

Ability to lift from 36 inches to overhead 15 lbs. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. Ability to match or discriminate between colors. Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. Ability to work in a latex safe environment. Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions. Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
