Orthopedic Surgery Center - Associate Medical Director, Anesthesiology

Our organization is on the lookout for a full-time Anesthesiologist to take on the role of Associate Medical Director at our newly established Orthopedic Surgery Center (OSC).

The ideal candidate will become a vital member of the OSC Leadership team, collaborating closely with the OSC Medical Director to ensure the smooth operation of this innovative facility. This role encompasses both clinical responsibilities, with a .8 clinical FTE, and leadership/administrative duties, comprising .2 FTE.

This is a remarkable opportunity to be part of the founding team launching the OSC in early 2027. Situated in the greater Portland area, this standalone center will be integrated into a comprehensive Orthopedic Campus, serving as a key destination for Northern New England. The OSC will feature four operating rooms and two procedure rooms, catering to a diverse range of ambulatory orthopedic patients, including those with joint issues, sports injuries, and other orthopedic needs. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the anesthesia model and team, becoming an essential part of the broader OSC care team.

• Education: Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
• Experience:
  • Board certification is required.
  • A minimum of three years of clinical experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center setting.
  • Preferred: Prior leadership experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center.

1. Clinical Leadership:
   • Collaborate with the OSC Medical Director, Nursing Director, and Administrator to oversee the administrative and clinical functions of the OSC.
   • Provide clinical guidance and support to the OSC Anesthesiology Team.
   • Help maintain patient care standards and protocols to ensure optimal quality and safety.
   • Evaluate patient outcomes and recommend clinical enhancements.
2. Quality Improvement & Patient Safety:
   • Lead initiatives aimed at improving the quality of patient care.
   • Engage in peer review and incident reporting to identify improvement opportunities.
   • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
   • Conduct clinical audits and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
3. Operational Support:
   • Assist in the daily management of the OSC to ensure efficient operations and patient flow.
   • Collaborate with OSC leadership to optimize staffing, resource allocation, and capacity planning.
   • Support the implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
4. Staff Development & Mentorship:
   • Guide and support the professional growth of OSC physicians and clinical staff.
   • Assist in the recruitment, orientation, and onboarding of new OSC providers.
   • Encourage a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and continuous learning within the department.
   • Participate in the evaluation process for OSC providers, including annual performance reviews and necessary corrective actions.

   • Promote open communication and collaboration among OSC surgeons, nursing staff, administration, and other specialties.
   • Work with hospital leadership to address challenges, propose solutions, and implement changes within the OSC.
