Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Rotating Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 1 year License: RN Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Chest tube management Stable trach management (preferred) IV skills Central line knowledge Knowledge of CPAP/BiPAP/Airvo Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Medical/Surgical unit. The unit features 101 licensed beds. It is designated as a Level IV Trauma Center and a Primary Stroke Center. Experience with oncology patients is preferred, although caring for pediatric patients is not necessary. Surgical patients may include those recovering from bowel surgeries and GU surgeries. Other patient types include those with cellulitis, GI bleeds, CHF, and overflow patients including those with Covid/TB. The nurse will not need to be chemotherapy certified. Patient ratios are as follows: Day shift: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients. PM shift: 1 nurse to 6 patients. Overnight shift: 1 nurse to 7-8 patients. The unit has support staff, including CNAs and a charge nurse. Nurses will draw blood from central lines and have access to phlebotomy services. There is 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage. Orientation will last 1-2 days, depending on the comfort level of the nurse. Weekend rotations are required. Holiday expectations involve working every other holiday. Scrub colors must be professional. Experience with the Epic charting system is preferred. The nurse may float to other units within their scope of practice but will only work with Medical/Surgical level patients.
