Registered Nurse (RN) – County Jail (New Grads Welcome!)

Pittsburgh, PA | $48/hr | Full-Time Contract

Cogent Infotech/CWS Health is hiring Registered Nurses (RNs) to support the medical unit at the County Jail in Pittsburgh, PA .

This is a full-time, 22-week minimum contract can be extended multiple times if contractor performs well and is a good fit for the role.

Schedule

\n
• 40+ hours per week
\n
• Day: 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
\n
• Evening: 2:00 PM–10:30 PM
\n
• Night: 10:00 PM–6:30 AM
\n
• Every other weekend required
\n
• 8-hour shifts; 12-hour shifts are not available
\n

Upcoming Security Training: September 15–18, 2026

Job Type: Full-time Contract

Contract Length: Minimum 22 weeks with extension potential

Requirements

\n
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
\n
• Current Pennsylvania RN license/Compact or Temporary Practice Permit
\n
• Current CPR/BLS certification
\n
• Nursing experience in a hospital, clinic, healthcare, or correctional setting preferred
\n
• Comfortable working in a secure correctional environment
\n
• Ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and manage multiple tasks
\n

Responsibilities

\n
• Perform patient assessments and health screenings
\n
• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies
\n
• Start, monitor, and maintain IVs
\n
• Perform blood draws
\n
• Respond to medical emergencies
\n
• Document patient care accurately and timely
\n
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare staff
\n
• Provide care to incarcerated patients within the jail medical unit
\n
• Other duties include intake health assessments, IV therapy, blood draws, medication administration, emergency response, and independent clinical judgment.

Clearance & Onboarding

Selected candidates must complete:

• Security clearance
\n
• Current photo ID submission
\n
• 2-Step TB or QuantiFERON
\n
• PA Child Abuse Clearance
\n
• Security Training
\n
• Medical orientation
\n

Important Facility Information

\n
• Healthcare staff are required to wear black scrub tops and black scrub bottoms
\n
• Cell phones and smart watches are not permitted beyond the employee entrance unless authorized
\n
• Staff must complete security screening when entering the facility
\n
• New hires receive formal jail safety and security training before beginning work
\n
