Position Type: DISTRICT LEADERSHIP/MANAGER Date Posted: 5/6/2026 Location: Operations: Maintenance & Operations POSITION SUMMARY The HVAC Manager oversees the daily operations, maintenance, and performance of all HVAC systems across the district. This role leads a team of HVAC technicians to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient heating and cooling in all school and district facilities. The HVAC Manager prioritizes urgent service needs, drives preventative maintenance practices, and ensures systems are fully operational to support teaching and learning. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Team Leadership & Service Delivery Lead and supervise HVAC specialists and technicians, including performance evaluations, scheduling, and identifying training needs; ensure technicians maintain required certifications (e.g., EPA Universal). Manage daily work orders through the Facilities Management System, prioritizing urgent issues such as "no-cool" and "no-heat" calls to ensure timely service to schools. Partner with School-Based operations teams to ensure high-quality, responsive service delivery. Respond to and resolve complex or escalated HVAC issues impacting school operations. Systems Management & Preventative Maintenance Oversee the Energy Management System (EMS/BAS) to maintain required temperatures during instructional hours and troubleshoot system issues. Implement and monitor a preventative maintenance program, including filter changes, coil cleaning, and system inspections to extend equipment life and reduce downtime. Supervise cooling tower and water system treatment, ensuring proper chemical management and compliance Monitor system performance and work order trends to improve efficiency and reduce repeat service needs. Ensure safe work practices and compliance with applicable safety standards. with safety and environmental standards. Planning, Readiness & Resource Coordination Lead seasonal readiness efforts, including executing the summer HVAC readiness plan to ensure systems are fully operational for the start of the school year. Coordinate with Warehouse Services to maintain critical inventory and ensure timely access to parts for repairs. Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or services as needed Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, controls, and preventative maintenance practices Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex HVAC issues in a timely manner Ability to supervise, coach, and hold technicians accountable for performance and quality of work Ability to prioritize and manage multiple service requests, including urgent "no-cool/no-heat" situations Experience using work order systems and/or Energy Management Systems (EMS/BAS) Knowledge of safety standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements related to HVAC systems Ability to plan and execute maintenance schedules and seasonal readiness efforts Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with school staff, internal teams, and vendors Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and high-pressure situations MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: • High school diploma or GED • Technical training or certification in HVAC or a related field (e.g., trade school or apprenticeship program) preferred • Associate degree in HVAC technology, mechanical systems, or a related field preferred CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: • Valid driver's license • EPA Universal Certification, HVAC license, OSHA 10 or 30 preferred WORK EXPERIENCE: • Minimum of 5 years of experience with commercial HVAC systems • Experience supervising HVAC technicians or leading a team preferred • Experience in a school district or large facility environment preferred COMPENSATION Salary Grade: 131 Salary Range: Salary Schedules - Atlanta Public Schools Work Year: Annual (252 - Day) PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS The physical abilities, working conditions and other conditions of employment listed in this document are representative of, but are not intended to provide an exhaustive list of the requirements for positions in this classification.
