This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, sanitary, and audit-ready facility while supporting food safety, quality, production, and continuous improvement.This is a hands-on leadership position with significant time spent on the production floor working directly with employees, Production, Quality, and outside service providers. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of food manufacturing sanitation and CIP systems and enjoys solving problems, developing teams, and driving improvements.What You'll DoLead and oversee daily sanitation activities to ensure the facility meets company, regulatory, food safety, and quality requirements.Lead, coach, schedule, and support sanitation employees to ensure appropriate staffing and effective execution of sanitation activities.Maintain and continuously improve the plant's sanitation, hygiene, pathogen monitoring, and pest control programs.Understand and support Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems, including troubleshooting issues and identifying opportunities for improvement.Review CIP records, pre-operational inspection records, sanitation documentation, and other records to verify proper completion and effectiveness.Maintain and communicate ATP testing results and partner with Production and Quality to investigate concerns and implement corrective actions.Maintain and continuously improve Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and the Master Sanitation Schedule.Conduct routine plant inspections to identify unsanitary conditions or practices and ensure timely corrective action.Manage pest control programs for conventional and organic processing and coordinate services with outside pest control providers.Partner with chemical suppliers to maintain appropriate cleaning chemicals, evaluate chemical effectiveness, and improve chemical usage and cost efficiency.Serve as a sanitation and hygiene technical resource for Production and Quality teams.Participate in the plant's HACCP team and support HACCP-related documentation and activities.Participate in SQF, GMP, food safety, safety, customer, and other facility audits and inspections.Lead and support improvements to the plant's GMP program.Assist with sanitation-related corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and ensure identified issues are effectively resolved.Identify and implement opportunities to improve water, chemical, labor, and other sanitation-related consumption and costs.Participate in the design and implementation of new CIP and sanitation equipment.Promote safe chemical handling practices and provide sanitation- and chemical-related training as needed.Partner with HR on recruiting and staffing needs within the sanitation department.Maintain professional working relationships with employees, customers, visitors, contractors, suppliers, and vendors.Perform other duties and support plant initiatives as assigned.What We're Looking ForBachelor's degree in a scientific, food science, or related discipline required.1–3 years of experience in food manufacturing, preferably within fluid processing, beverage, dairy, juice, or a similar environment.Previous sanitation leadership or relevant supervisory experience strongly preferred.Knowledge and practical understanding of CIP systems and sanitation technology.Ability to troubleshoot CIP and sanitation-related issues and identify opportunities to improve plant hygiene.HACCP certification required.Knowledge of GMPs, sanitation programs, pest control, food safety systems, and audit requirements.SQF experience or familiarity strongly preferred.Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.Ability to work effectively across departments and influence teams outside of the direct reporting structure.Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with ERP or other large-scale business systems preferred.Ability to manage changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.Physical & Schedule RequirementsAbility to regularly sit, stand, walk, reach, and move throughout a manufacturing facility.Ability to climb stairs and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.Ability to work in and around an active food manufacturing environment.Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on sanitation and production needs.Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, or outside the regularly scheduled shift when operational needs require.Why Ventura Coastal?At Ventura Coastal, sanitation is more than keeping the facility clean—it is an essential part of producing safe, high-quality products.
