Energy Transactions and Commercial Manager

About the Role: Polar is advising its energy utility and large commercial and industrial clients on achieving exceptional results through energy transactions while streamlining, automating, and enhancing RFP processes. Role Summary: This is a hybrid role and requires 3 days a week on-site. The Energy Transactions and Commercial Manager will support the customer’s Clean Energy Plan, including annual competitive solicitations for wholesale electric generation procurement, negotiation of large-scale PPAs, contract administration, regulatory reporting/testimony, and coordination with Legal, Credit, Accounting, and other internal teams. The ideal candidate will: Negotiate and draft PPAs resulting from annual competitive solicitations. Support or lead competitive solicitations/RFPs for wholesale electric generation procurement. Negotiate and draft amendments or related agreements tied to existing PPAs or Master EEI agreements. Draft utility commission filings and regulatory responses. Perform regulatory compliance reporting. Support contract administration activities, including rate letters, letter agreements, force majeure claims, and dispute resolution. Ensure procurement transactions comply with commercial, legal, and internal process requirements. Work with Legal, Credit, Accounting, suppliers, and other stakeholders to protect the customer’s interests. Required Skills & Experience: 4–7 years of experience supporting or executing energy transactions within U.S. wholesale power markets, ideally in utility or large commercial & industrial environments. Hands‑on experience drafting and negotiating PPAs and related agreements, including amendments, term sheets, and commercial schedules. Practical experience supporting or managing competitive solicitations (RFPs/RFQs), including development of materials, bidder coordination, and evaluation processes. Strong understanding of utility procurement processes and contract structures, with the ability to apply this knowledge in live transaction environments. Solid commercial and contractual acumen, with experience reviewing and redlining agreements and identifying key risks, dependencies, and commercial impacts. Exposure to regulated environments, including supporting regulatory filings, testimony development, or compliance reporting requirements. Experience supporting contract administration activities, including rate letters, letter agreements, change management, claims handling (e.g., force majeure), and dispute resolution support. Ability to operate effectively in multi‑stakeholder environments, collaborating with Legal, Credit, Accounting, and external counterparties to progress transactions. Strong organizational and delivery discipline, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, maintain documentation, and drive tasks to completion in a fast‑paced environment. Structured and detail‑oriented problem solver, able to translate complex transaction requirements into clear documentation and actionable outputs. Strong domain familiarity with U.S. wholesale power markets, including utility procurement frameworks, PPAs, and relevant regulatory environments (e.g., MISO, state commissions).
