BUILDING INSPECTOR MANAGER (CLASS CODE 2107)

Responsibilities Under the direction of the Chief Building Official, performs responsible administrative and technical work in directing all activities related to the enforcement of building codes. Work includes directing, managing, supervising, and coordinating the activities and operations of the Building Inspections staff, including supervisory personnel. The role also involves advanced technical and skilled work in inspecting residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and structures during various stages of construction, alteration, renovation, and/or repair. Performs technical reviews of building and building system plans, specifications, and construction documents to ensure compliance with applicable Building Codes and Ordinances. Qualifications Permanent status in an inspectional job classification at pay grade 72 or higher and eight (8) years of experience performing building, mechanical, or electrical inspection work. Active International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Residential Building Inspector and Commercial Building Inspector. A valid driver’s license. Eight (8) years of full‑time experience doing technical building inspection work, one year of which must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity. Active ICC certifications as a Residential Building Inspector and Commercial Building Inspector, or Residential Mechanical Inspector and Commercial Mechanical Inspector, or Residential Electrical Inspector and Commercial Electrical Inspector, or as a Building Official. Allowance for substitution of a Bachelor’s Degree for four (4) years of required experience or an Associate’s Degree for two (2) years of required experience. Commitment to obtain ICC Certified Building Official certification during the probationary period. Applicants hired between April 1 2025 and March 31 2027 are exempted from the requirement to reside in Orleans Parish.
