Technical Director
Queer Artists & Players
The Technical Director is responsible for the safe, on-time, and under-budget execution of all of the scenic elements that appear on stage, such as backdrops, platforms, furniture, or decorations. They work closely with the Set Designer and Production Manager to come up with and then execute a plan for creating the set that fits within the constraints of the production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working with the Set Designer to ensure the set design is feasible.
- Creating detailed materials lists and technical drawings for construction of scenic elements.
- Preparing stand-in scenic elements for rehearsal as-needed.
- Building, acquiring, and installing set pieces.
- Repairing or replacing things that break during tech and performances.
Preferred Qualifications (but not hard requirements):
- Experience as a set designer, technical director, master carpenter, or other related role
- Drawing and sketching skills
- Experience with CAD software such as Vectorworks, AutoCAD, or SketchUp
- Familiarity with theatrical scenery conventions, standards, techniques, and safety practices
- Experience with carpentry and/or other large-scale fabrication methods
