Overview This position is responsible for enrolling and completing the Paragon Level 1 training program for grooming and/or bathing. Paragon is a virtual distant learning program designed to educate students on the fundamentals of bathing and grooming, while providing basic safety, pet first aid and CPR, pet handling skills, dog anatomy and physiology. The program combines hands-on practice, book work, online exams, videos, and submitting photos for grading. Essential Duties and Responsibilities As a Team Member, you should be available, flexible, adaptable and service-oriented to fulfill the following requirements: Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Work scheduled shifts with the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends and overtime as needed. Support selling initiatives (TEAM): Thank the Customer Engage with the customer and/or pet Advise products or services Make it Memorable Groom Technicians in Training are expected to learn and perform a combination of duties during the training program. Tasks may vary day to day, but the role requires the ability to perform all listed duties accurately, efficiently and safely with minimal notice: Enroll and complete the Paragon training for Level 1 (Groom Tech) within the required five-week timeline Safe pet handling Bathing, drying, brushing and combing all coat types Nail trimming Ear cleaning Preparatory hair trimming Basic clipper techniques Basic finishing techniques Customer service skills Demonstrating professionalism Equipment handling and maintenance Ensure the safety and well-being of animals Inspect animals for external signs of parasites, disease or injury and report findings Practice safety and sanitization protocols Sanitize and maintain grooming tools and equipment to prevent injuries and disease spread Assist in generating business by contacting existing and new customers, scheduling appointments, following up with customers and reminders, and verifying vaccinations Maintain records of pet clients, services provided, and vaccination records Operate computer as needed Store recovery as needed Ensure safety and well-being of live animals; sanitize and maintain holding tanks and care for live animals as required Complete all documentation related to the above duties May perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Experience: Comfortable working with dogs and cats. Demonstrate patience and compassion for animals. Must provide own tools (clippers, blades, shears) or be willing to purchase required tools. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered. Regardless of education level, all must be able to read, write and count accurately. Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities Operate and use grooming tools and equipment including bathing tubs, brushes, combs, scissors, clippers, dryers, and products such as shampoos and conditioning aids Communicate effectively with team members and customers Show compassion for animals Display attention to detail Read, write and count to complete all documentation Basic computer skills Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict Working Conditions Generally indoors with moderate noise Exposure to sharp grooming instruments, shampoos, soaps, pets and pet waste Exposure to wet conditions, especially during bathing Exposure to cats and dogs of various sizes, breeds and temperaments Work shifts vary; generally no less than 4 hours and may exceed 8 hours Promote a safe and productive work environment and adhere to company safety training Indoor floors and outdoor lots are hard surfaces; lighting and temperature are adequate Physical Requirements Ability to move and transfer live animals, equipment, and merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds Stand and maintain a stationary position for up to 8 hours while grooming Move for 4-8 hours per day to groom, clean and maintain the salon Use grooming instruments including shears and dryers Occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead Bend, kneel, and squat to position for grooming, cleaning, stocking Operate store equipment such as computer and cash register Read, write and count accurately to complete documentation Communicate effectively with team members and customers Non-sedentary; maintain physical and mental stamina to move throughout the store and outdoor areas Disclaimer This job description provides an overview of responsibilities for the position and is not a comprehensive list of duties.
