Job Summary The Registered Nurse will assist in the delivery of patient care during the clinic’s hours of operation. This role reports to the Clinic Administrator and receives clinical oversight from the Nurse Manager. Responsibilities Assist with the evaluation and care of patients, including preparing patients for examination, taking vital signs, verifying patient information, and recording medical history. Provide direct nursing care, including lab services and the distribution of medications and treatments according to accepted standards of care. Conduct patient follow‑up visits and physical examinations in accordance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act. Teach and counsel patients about health assessment, disease prevention, hygiene, and health maintenance in a safe, affirming, and culturally appropriate manner. Provide clinical training to new Medical Assistant staff and give feedback to the clinic administrator regarding training progress. Adequately review and prepare charts before daily visits. Serve as a mentor to clinic support staff. Act as a liaison and collaborate with the Patient Support Center RN team as needed. Follow the organization’s clinical SDOs, policies, and procedures when interpreting lab results, sending medication refills, or scheduling treatments. Report Texas DSHS notifiable conditions related to presumptive primary syphilis and acute HIV diagnoses as required. Prioritize work tasks and complete them in a timely manner. Maintain accurate, concise progress notes, problem lists, and medication lists. Communicate appropriately and tactfully with staff, patients, partners, and community members. Engage in a quality improvement culture within the department/organization and participate in identified quality improvement activities. Participate in staff planning, in‑service, and other meetings as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Key Performance Indicators Adherence to all clinical and administrative protocols for the role. Adherence to all privacy and ethical protocols of the organization. Participation in continuous improvement initiatives. Act as floor leader for daily clinical flow. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent work experience. Current RN licensure in the state of Texas. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained within two days after hire. Experience 2+ years of patient care experience in an outpatient setting; experience with LGBTQIA+ and/or other marginalized communities is a strong plus. Microsoft Office skills and ability to learn position‑specific software. Additional Requirements Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Experience in HIV testing, HIV services, STI testing, and treatment clinic preferred. 2+ years of experience working with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ individuals, is a strong plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic PC skills: Windows OS, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Understanding of confidentiality and HIPAA standards. High degree of diplomacy, tact, excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills, and cultural sensitivity. Strong verbal and written communication in English; additional language abilities desirable. Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. Capability to interact with a wide range of people, including those in crisis or with resistance. Time‑management skills to prioritize, schedule, and complete tasks effectively. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines. Collaborative work with other departments and external partners. Performance of regular 40‑hour work week; occasional weekends may be required. Conflict resolution skills with a focus on win‑win solutions. Exceptional follow‑through on assignments. Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, and grasp objects, including exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities requiring accurate and sometimes rapid instructions. Hearing sufficient to perceive sound with no less than 40 dB loss at 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz, with or without correction. Perform repetitive wrist, hand, and finger motions. Visual acuity sufficient to complete administrative and clerical tasks, with or without correction. Ability to work and concentrate amid noise, conversation, and foot traffic. The work environment is primarily indoors; exposure to temperature changes is not substantial.
