Job Description Under supervision of the Chief Dietitian, the Dietetic Technician performs specialized paraprofessional clinical duties in a hospital nutrition program. The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Assist Dietitian in collecting nutritionally relevant data to perform nutritional screening and preliminary nutritional risk evaluation; interview patients to obtain food preferences and diet history; discuss patient needs with the health care team; determine whether nutritional assessments are required and performed by a Registered Dietitian. Assist Dietitian in providing nutritional education for patients and families, review current dietary practices, evaluate understanding and expected level of compliance, and make follow-up education recommendations. Collect pertinent clinical data from medical records to identify current nutrition problems; chart information into patient records following approved documentation standards. Assist Dietitian in performing nutritional analysis, including calculation and analysis of food and fluid intake, weight records, menu patterns, and enteral formula orders. Assist Dietitian in implementing patient nutritional preferences, monitoring care plans, retrieving clinical information, generating reports, and using computerized systems. Note: The 2622 Dietetic Technician may perform other duties as assigned/required. Qualifications License and Certification: Possession of a credential as a Registered Dietetic Technician approved by the American Dietetic Association.
